Here are all the artworks and exhibitions to see at galleries around Wan Chai and Eastern District

March is art month in Hong Kong, and the city’s cultural scene has collectively put it best foot forward. With coronavirus restrictions eased at last, internationally renowned artists, curators, and collectors are flying into the special administrative region for Art Basel and Art Central, as well as to see some local cultural action. This is also coinciding with all sorts of venues opening new exhibitions this month, including galleries, museums, and art spaces.

With so much happening and so many shows and exhibitions to see, you may be wondering what’s most worth your time to visit. So we’ve organised Tatler’s top picks by district, and here are the one you should check out in the Wan Chai and Eastern district.

Signals…瞬息 is first exhibition that Para Site’s new director Billy Tang put together along with curator Celia Ho. Participating artists include Christine Sun Kim, Candice Lin & P. Staff, Wing Po So, Tang Kwok Hin and others. The exhibition explores “signals” as modes of kinetic art, communication, actions, and interventions to create a chain of reactions. As such, the artists use sensory cues including sound, smell, movement and smoke to explore complex issues related to dispersed communities, migratory flows, and the intersection of technology, science, and architecture.

Date: March 18 to September 29
Address: 22/F, Wing Wah Industrial Building, 677 King’s Rd, Quarry Bay.

Her new works showcase new perspectives and depictions of Hong Kong’s urban landscapes, made from acrylic paint on upcycled wood.

Date: Until April 1
Address:

In their Sik On street gallery, Kiang Malingue presents Vietnamese American artist Tiffany Chung’s first solo exhibition in Hong Kong: Entangled traces, disremembered landscapes. Chung is known for analysing and materialising research into hand-drawn and embroidered works and mixed media installations. The exhibition includes new cartographic works and a video installation which explore geopolitics, history, and memory through the act of map-making. She examines the connectivity between nature, culture, colonialism and war, and unpacks conflict in the context of the Vietnam War.

Date: March 20 to May 6, 2023
Address: 10 Sik On Street, Wan Chai.
