Zac Purton sets new record for Hong Kong wins
Congratulations are in order for Gen.T honouree Zac Purton. Purton has etched his name in the annals of Hong Kong racing history, becoming the most-awarded jockey in the city with a remarkable total of 1,814 wins. This milestone was achieved at Happy Valley yesterday, where Purton showcased his exceptional talent with two victories.
In need of just two wins to surpass the previous record held by Douglas Whyte, Purton made an impressive start by securing his first win aboard Spirit Of Peace in race three. The excitement built as fans eagerly awaited his next ride. Purton didn’t disappoint, sealing his historic achievement in the ninth race with a win on View Of The World.
In recognition of this significant accomplishment, Purton was presented with a specially designed trophy featuring the number 1814, along with new racing silks. The presentation was made by Hong Kong Jockey Club chief executive Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges, marking a moment of pride not just for Purton but for the entire racing community. After the win, an elated Purton humbly said: “Records are meant to be broken and someone will break mine one day too.”
