Even though the temperature dropped drastically overnight, the Happy Valley Racecourse was heated up by over 20,000 people who attended the Swire Symphony Under the Stars, a free, massive concerted organised and performed by the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra.

Families, tourists and even businessmen in their office attire all gathered on the racecourse grounds to enjoy the orchestra's classical music, under assistant conductor Perry So. A violin solo by Huang Meng-la was a highlight of the evening. But the true showstopper was the final, rousing performance of of Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture that was accompanied by a blaze of colourful fireworks.

Apart from breaking the record of audience attendance, the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra broke another record - the Guinness World Record of the largest harmonica ensemble. During the intermission, 6,131 harmonica players, accompanied by the orchestra, performed a piece that lasted seven minutes and 25 seconds - a world record melody.
