What is your understanding of space? Have a look at these artists’ works and their interpretation of it in a group exhibition
Michel Foucault’s heterotopia, or his musings on the concept of space and how individuals best understand them, inspired an esteemed artist collective to open an exhibition last May 16. Inviting 37 printmakers to Bulwagang Roberto Chabet at the Cultural Center of the Philippines TIG Gallery, the show encouraged the artists to utilise a limited printable surface of 20 x20 inches with their interpretation of the idea of a place.
Titled Space/Place, this annual exhibition of the Association of Pinoyprintmakers (AP) invites art lovers and enthusiasts to a one-of-a-kind experience until June 18.

The common understanding of space is often associated with people, things, and environments. Foucault argues that everyone’s notion of it constantly changes. Thus, the exhibit investigates how printmaking represents personal narratives and each artist’s process in place-making.
Technique-wise, the prints are products of hand-pull printmaking techniques like intaglio, serigraphy, and lithography.
