Rockwell and 9 Works Theatrical are turning up the summer heat as they bring the global sensation, ‘On Your Feet! The Story of Emilio & Gloria Estefan’, to the Philippine stage for its highly anticipated Southeast Asian premiere

The vibrant sounds of the Miami Sound Machine will soon ignite the stage at The Proscenium Theater at Rockwell Center in Makati City. Running for a limited season from July 10 to August 2, the Southeast Asian premiere of On Your Feet! The Story of Emilio & Gloria Estefan promises an inspiring celebration of heritage, family and the music that moved the world. Directed by Robbie Guevara and presented by 9 Works Theatrical in partnership with Rockwell, the production brings to life the awe-inspiring story of music legends Gloria and Emilio Estefan.

Above Kayla Rivera, Jason Canela, Molly Langley for ‘On Your Feet! The Story of Emilio & Gloria Estefan’

Featuring a book by Academy Award winner Alexander Dinelaris, On Your Feet! charts the monumental journey of the Estefans. It follows their humble beginnings in Cuba and Miami, leading up to their rise to international superstardom. Along the way, the musical explores how the couple overcame immense career hurdles and a life-threatening tragedy. The uplifting saga is driven by a pulse-pounding playlist of their greatest pop hits, including Conga, Rhythm Is Gonna Get You, 1-2-3 and Anything For You.

The production of On Your Feet! boasts a powerhouse cast to deliver the iconic vocals and high-energy choreography. Alternating as the unstoppable Queen of Latin Pop, Gloria Estefan, are acclaimed performers Molly Langley and Kayla Rivera. Langley is a Filipino-British singer and actress who trained in the UK and recently made it to the Top 6 of GMA’s The Clash. Rivera, a Filipino-Canadian singer and actress, first gained national recognition on ABS-CBN’s Star Power and has since built a celebrated theatrical career.

Above Jasonm Canela reprises the role of Emilio Estefan

Taking on the role of music visionary Emilio Estefan is Cuban-American actor Jason Canela. Best known for his television work on shows like Apple TV+’s Palm Royale and CBS’s The Young and the Restless, Canela brings a unique connection to the story. He previously made history as the first Cuban actor to play the legendary producer in the musical’s Miami regional premiere. Canela expressed a deep personal connection to the production, noting, “This story isn’t something I had to search far for it’s in my DNA. It is my story, too.”

Joining the leads is a stellar lineup of veteran theatre actors: Ayen Laurel makes her theatre comeback as Gloria’s mother, Gloria Fajardo. Pinky Marquez takes on the role of Gloria’s grandmother, Consuelo Garcia. John Joven Uy steps into the shoes of Gloria’s father, Jose Fajardo. Vien King portrays Young Jose Fajardo. Jani Magadia and Anyah de Guzman will alternate as Gloria’s sister, Rebecca Fajardo. The roles of Little Gloria and Young Emilio will be alternated by child actors Reese Iso and Althea Ruedas, and Elian Santos and Manolo Villalva, respectively. 

With musical direction by Daniel Bartolome and explosive choreography by Nunoy van den Burgh, fans of On Your Feet! can look forward to a dynamic show that captures the grit and vision of two artists who redefined the American soundscape.

Performances are scheduled for 8pm on Fridays and Saturdays, and for 3pm on Saturdays and Sundays. Tickets are currently available for purchase through TicketWorld outlets, online, and at the Power Plant Mall Cinema.
