A spectacular evening of music, generosity and national pride, the Symphony Ball 2025 raised a record S$1.4 million in support of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra’s mission of spreading the joy of music, while honouring Singapore’s 60th birthday with a night to remember
The Singapore Symphony Orchestra (SSO) performed over 110 concerts (including its outreach and community performances) in the past year, according to Goh Yew Lin, chair of the Singapore Symphony Group, who shared the milestone at the annual Symphony Ball held on April 26. In February, Singapore’s national orchestra also made its debut in Australia with a three-city tour across Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.
These achievements would not have been possible without the steadfast support of its donors and patrons. Their contributions have not only sustained the SSO’s artistic excellence—propelling it toward becoming one of the finest orchestras in the world—but have also expanded its outreach through free community concerts, educational initiatives, and support for the Singapore National Youth Orchestra and Singapore Symphony Choruses.

This year’s Ball was a resounding success, raising a record-breaking S$1.4 million in support of the SSO’s mission to bring world-class music to Singapore and beyond. Of that, S$152,000 was raised during a spirited live auction, featuring premium spirits generously donated by benefactors. Presented by DBS, the gala was held at The Ritz-Carlton, Millenia Singapore and welcomed over 380 distinguished guests, with Singapore’s deputy prime minister Heng Swee Keat gracing the occasion as guest of honour.
Themed Straits Serenade, the Ball paid tribute to Singapore’s 60th birthday through a refined fusion of music, culture, and cuisine. Led by committee chair Paige Parker, the evening spotlighted Singaporean talent and artistic expression, underscoring the SSO’s enduring commitment to nurturing the nation’s musical heritage.

The musical programme, conducted by SSO associate conductor Rodolfo Barráez, showcased homegrown works including Spring! by Cultural Medallion recipient Kelly Tang, along with solo performances by SSO violinist Kong Xianlong and trumpeter Lau Wen Rong. A touching moment came when the Singapore Symphony Children’s Choir returned to the annual fundraiser after a seven-year hiatus to perform Dick Lee’s beloved anthem Home, followed by an encore of Why We Sing by Greg Gilpin, earning heartfelt applause from the audience.
