The spectacular showcase of ballet returns this July with a triple bill performance and an exclusive gala night celebrating legendary choreographer Choo-San Goh

An exquisite showcase of dance that blends innovation and tradition, the Singapore Ballet Festival returns to the Esplanade Theatre from July 19 to 21, 2024. The highly anticipated event opens with a triple bill performance—featuring pieces by acclaimed choreographers Timothy Harbour, Edwaard Liang, and Kinsun Chan—before culminating in a gala night celebrating the legacy of the venerable choreographer Choo-San Goh.

From the distinct and inventive sequences of Harbour’s Linea Adora to the dynamic choreography in Liang’s Opus 25, the stage is set to ignite with a mesmerising celebration of dance. This year’s festival also sees the debut of Swiss-Canadian choreographer Chan’s Rite of Spring, set to Igor Stravinsky’s iconic score.

Building on the momentum of the company’s performance at the Kennedy Center last month in Washington D.C, the Singapore Ballet is staging a special fundraising gala in honour of Goh on the final night of the festival.

“The establishment of Singapore Ballet came from the inspiration of the career of choreographer Choo-San Goh. From 1988 until today, his legacy has continued to provide an impact on the aspirations for continuing growth and development. His ballets, to us, are a treasure,” says Janek Schergen, artistic director of Singapore Ballet.

The gala will feature a reprisal of the late choreographer’s most celebrated works including Momentum; Romeo and Juliet Pas De Deux; Fives; and Double Contrasts.

As part of its commitment to keep Goh’s legacy alive, the Singapore Ballet will be inviting schools, cultural organisations and charities to experience the special event under its “Adopt an Audience” programme. This initiative aligns with the company’s ongoing efforts to broaden dance appreciation and expose younger generations of Singaporeans to the renowned choreographer.

The Singapore Ballet Festival takes place on July 19 and 20, and the fundraising gala night dedicated to Goh takes place on July 21.

General tickets are available for the public to buy online at https://sistic.com.sg/events/sbfest0724

For discerning patrons, the gala offers exclusive donation packages at $2,000 and $3,000 which include complimentary tickets to the gala, and an invitation to a post-show reception with the artists.
