Over 200 works, dating back to as far as before the 1900’s, by 76 masters of modern and contemporary art are now on show at Galeri Petronas.



In an exhibition to foster international cultural exchange between Malaysia and Spain, over 200 works of the world’s most renowned modern and contemporary artists are now on show at Galeri Petronas.

Happening from now till 22 March 2015, the exhibition, titled 'MAESTRO - World's Modern and Contemporary Art Masters', features works of a total of 76 artists dating back to as far as before the 1900’s 

Artists from the 19th century on show include Eugene Delacroix, Edouard Manet, Odilon Redon, Camille Pissarro, Maurice  Utrillo, Edouard Vuillard and Henri Fatin-Latour.

Modern artists in the exhibition include Henri Matisse, Leonard Foujita, Sonia Delaunay, Marie Laurencin, Henry Moore, Guillaume Cornelis van Beverloo Corneille, Serge Poliakoff, Piere Soulages, Bram Van Velde, and Zao Wou Ki.

American post-war artists are also in the lineup, among them Jackson Pollock, Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol, Damien Hirst, Jasper Johns, Robert Indiana and Sol Lewitt.

Representing Spanish modern and contemporary art are art giants Pablo Picasso, Jose Gutierrez Solana, Francisco Iturrino, Antoni Clave, and more.

The 200 prints include various printing techniques as well as 22 objects by the artists. It offers a glimpse into the art world from the period of symbolism and impressionism, up until the modern era.

Each artwork from the later eras are also signed and numbered by the respective artist. As for the older works from before the 1900’s when the practice of signing was not yet established, the erudite and respected dealers as well as the late graphical French editor, Henri M Petiet, have sealed a majority of them. 

MAESTRO is open to the public from 10am – 8pm at Galeri Petronas. Admission is free.
