'Hang On A Minute Lads... I've Got A Great Idea' by Richard Wilson

For Art Basel Hong Kong, artist Richard Wilson has set up a life-sized bus that looks like it may plummet to the ground at any second to hang off the sun terrace of the hotel.

The art world in Hong Kong is abuzz right now with Art Basel taking place. Hong Kong’s International Commerce Centre has been turned into a giant video game and now The Peninsula Hong Kong Hotel, too, has an attraction of its own.

Passersby, do not be shocked if you look up to see a bus hanging off the ledge of the 7th floor of the hotel, no matter how precarious it looks. It is merely part of an art installation by artist Richard Wilson, who is known for his works that play with space and perception.

In his latest piece called ‘Hang On A Minute Lads… I’ve Got a Great Idea’, he is taking a leaf out of the movie ‘The Italian Job’ and reenacting the scene in the movie where the characters are hanging off the edge of a cliff in a bus.

For his teetering installation for Art Basel Hong Kong, he has perched a life-sized bus off the Sun Terrace on the 7th floor of The Peninsula. The bus even moves in the wind thanks to a mechanism that rocks it on intervals.

It may not be a real bus -- it is merely a replica of a twin-axel Harrington Legionnaire coach -- but it still weighs a whopping 6-tonnes according to the The Peninsula Hong Kong as posted on their Facebook page.

Done in collaboration with the Royal Academy of Arts London, the bus will be on show from now until 8 April.

Talk about a cliffhanger!

Watch the video below to see the efforts that went into getting the bus all the way up there.
