Turn your fantasies into reality with Wooh Nayoung's art exhibition at KCC Philippines

“A dream is a wish your heart makes,” sings our favourite fairy tale daydreamer. Perhaps, a multitude of princesses at heart sang loud enough for Korean Cultural Center to hear.

In case you missed it: Here's What to Expect Inside the New Korean Cultural Centre in Manila

KCC invites you to relive your childhood by stepping into the surreal world of our beloved bedtime stories that will be found within their exhibit halls. Labelled "Once Upon a Time, Hanbok Fairytale", Korean artist Wooh Nayoung will be showcasing 32 of her majestic illustrations.

Nayoung majored in Korean painting, worked as an art director for a game company, and had experience with Hollywood ventures such as Blizzard, Marvel, Netflix and Disney. You may have already seen her digital works that are characterised by striking Korean aesthetics. Out of her plenty of collaborations, she is skilled at completely combining and transforming one element into another and integrating Korean culture through her artworks. Nayoung's traditional painting style simply leaves its viewers impressed.

Her Fairy Tale series is the most popular yet. Nayoung was able to pull off an entire makeover for our fairytale icons as if her home country was where it all originated—from the clothing, hairstyle, and accessories, down to the sceneries. Her incorporation of the sophisticated hanbok (traditional attire for Koreans) makes a whole other interpretation of our beloved fairytale collection and the public can see it all with their own eyes.

Along with the experience is the fairy godmother’s in-person welcome appearance to tell tales of her adventures and to dazzle you with magic before your own adventure begins. As you absorb the craft that will be laid out around you, viewing through the reinterpreted scenes from Cinderella, Alice in Wonderland, and other fairytales by authors Hans Christian Andersen, Grimm Brothers, and Lewis Carrel, you will gradually feel like the main characters of the stories. This is what KCC and Nayoung intend you to feel: a dream come true encounter, happy ever after experience in the shoes of your fairytale fancies.

Once Upon a Time, Hanbok Fairytale will be featured at Korean Cultural Center, Taguig. Its doors will open every weekday from 9 am to 4 pm and every Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm, excluding Sundays and holidays. The entrance is free, but guests are required to present their vaccination cards upon entry, and only a maximum of 60 people are allowed at a time inside the building for health and safety reasons. "But like all dreams, I’m afraid this won’t last forever." Just as the fairy godmother said, the exhibit will be available from November 17, 2022 to February 28, 2023 only. You know you can’t miss it.
