In need of some new titles to read this month? Here are nine books you should be picking up
A new month means a new round of books to read. This summer, take a break from Netflix and pick up a book instead—the perfect companion to a day at the beach, at a picnic or while enjoying the weather inside a coffee shop or a beachside restaurant.
Whether you're looking for some good ol' romance, exciting thrillers or coming-of-age novels, there's a lot to choose from. Here, we list down the best books coming out in June. If you missed it, you can still check out our round-up of new books in April and May.
1. The Other Black Girl by Zakiya Dalila Harris
Zakiya Dalila Harris' debut novel, The Other Black Girl is part-Get Out, part-The Stepford Wives. This stunning debut is about 26-year-old editorial assistant Nella Rogers, who's simply just tired of being the only Black employee at her company. She's fed up with the isolation and microaggression so when Harlem-born and bred Hazel starts working beside her, she's thrilled. Just as the two start bonding over her hair care regimens, Hazel suddenly becomes the Office Darling, leaving Nella all alone.
As if that's not enough, she receives a note on her desk asking her to leave the company and she tries to find out who wants her out. Though she soon realises that it's not just her career at stake now. The Other Black Girl is a thriller injected with sly social commentary that feels relevant to anyone who has been manipulated and overlooked in their workplace.
