The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), together with the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP), called on the public to nominate for the upcoming National Artist conferment in 2025
In 2025, the NCCA and CCP will confer new National Artists. This highly anticipated event will highlight exceptional Filipino talents who have demonstrated significant contributions to the fields of architecture and allied arts, cinema, dance, dramatic arts, literary arts, music, and visual arts.
Under Proclamation No.1001 dated April 27, 1972, the Order of National Artist, or Orden ng Pambansang Alagad ng Sining, was established to bestow appropriate recognition and prestige on Filipinos who have distinguished themselves and made outstanding contributions to Philippine arts and letters. According to the Republic Act (RA) 7365, the NCCA is given broad responsibilities for developing and promoting Filipino national culture and arts, including awards to persons who have significantly contributed to developing and promoting Philippine culture and the arts.

What does it mean to be a national artist?

The Order of National Artists aims to recognise Filipino artists who have contributed significantly to the country's cultural heritage and Filipino artistic accomplishment at its highest level to promote creative expression as substantial to the development of national cultural identity.
It also seeks to honour Filipino artists who have dedicated their lives to their works to forge new paths and directions for future generations of Filipino artists.
Those who were conferred the National Artist title will receive PHP 200,000 in cheque immediately after the ceremony; a minimum lifetime personal monthly stipend of PHP 50,000; medical and hospitalisation benefits not exceeding PHP 750,000; coverage by a life insurance policy by the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS); a state funeral; a place of honour in state functions, national commemoration ceremonies, and all other cultural presentation.

The Order of National Artists shall be given to artists who have met the following criteria:
- Living artists who are Filipino citizens at the time of nomination and at the awarding, as well as those who died after the establishment of the award in 1972 but were Filipino citizens at the time of their death.
- Artists who through the content and form of their works have contributed toin building a Filipino sense of nationhood.
- Artists who have pioneered in a mode of creative expression or style, thus, earning distinction and making an impact on succeeding generations of artists.
- Artists who have created a substantial and significant body of works and consistently displayed excellence in the practice of their artform, thus, enriching artistic expression or style.

Artists who enjoy broad acceptance through:
- Prestigious national or international recognition such as Gawad CCP para sa Sining, CCP Thirteen Artists Award, and NCCA Haraya Awards (Alab and Dangal).
- Critical acclaim and reviews of their works.
- Respect and esteem from peers.
