Here’s everything you need to know about this year’s MoCAF
In 2022, the Modern and Contemporary Art Festival—MoCAF for short—was one of the many firsts to welcome back local art lovers after the COVID-19-induced lockdown. It was a melting pot of creativity, where lines blur with new artists given the opportunity to stand amongst seasoned ones.
“Our pioneering MoCAF Discoveries gave a critical platform for young artists, many of whom like Carla Gamalinda, Gelo Montiero, Wendel Candawan, RAFA, Seth Corda, and Ian Inoy now have flourishing careers,” says festival chairperson Ricky Francisco. From July 5 to 7 this year, another opportunity appears, with MoCAF returning bigger and better.
This year promises a much bigger space: the entire four floors of the Marquis Events Place in Bonifacio Global City. A total of 47 galleries, alongside MoCAF Dialogues and the introduction of the MoCAF XTN, are set to pique the interest of guests and patrons alike.

The Main Ballroom will host 24 galleries, including seven international ones.
Visitors will also have access to an extensive lineup of 11 Special Exhibitions, featuring event-exclusive pieces by seasoned creatives like Katrina Cuenca and Michael Cacnio, as well as curated shows by the Department of Tourism.

Above In partnership with Ascott BGC, MoCAF 2024 unveiled its plans through a media launch that provided a glimpse into this year’s festivities. Suite 3001 at the 30th floor was transformed into a mini art galler7, displaying some of the highlights of this year’s MoCAF Discoveries. The pioneering MoCAF Discoveries will also see 14 artists from its 2023 roster return this year and 28 new artists join the lineup.

MoCAF XTN
Apart from the new venue, there will also be a new segment and format: the MoCAF XTN. This initiative aims to extend the event’s reach, recognising that supporting start-ups fosters diversity.
This move highlights new galleries like M Gallery and non-traditional art forms through the Artisans section, which will showcase art-inspired merchandise ranging from clothing and books to pottery and other forms. This section will include the prized collection of Imao Studios, the local and international prints of Spruce Gallery, and textile paintings courtesy of RIOtaso.

“It’s always been a goal of MoCAF to reach out to the community,” shares festival director Coleen Wong. Despite raising the bar each year, she notes, “I think what MoCAF is also known for is how relaxed it is for the festival-goers; it doesn’t pressure you to roam around. We want festival-goers to enjoy and breathe in the art experience.”
Attendees can secure their festival tickets at mocaf.net.
