“Rong Rao x Nghe”: a symphony of memory, presence and vision
This year’s “Meet the Artist” carries added significance with the theme “Rong Rao x Nghe”, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the liberation of Da Nang (29 March 1975) and Quang Nam (24 March 1975). The milestone offers a poignant backdrop for a curated collection that reflects the cultural essence of the region seen through the traditions of craft villages and the vibrant energy of urban street life. The exhibition resonates all the more as plans to merge Da Nang and Quang Nam in 2025 begin to take shape, signalling a new chapter of unity and shared cultural legacy.
The “Rong Rao x Nghe” showcase presents 22 imaginative pieces by emerging artists from Quang Nam and Da Nang. Through a richly layered experience, visitors are invited to immerse themselves in the everyday rhythm of local streets, the artistry of traditional crafts, and the heritage embedded in familiar icons. Works range from expressive acrylic paintings and whimsical mechanical flipbooks to intricate scale models and immersive AR installations. Featured are contributions by artisans from Nam O Fish Sauce Village, Tra Que Vegetable Village, Thanh Ha Pottery Village and Ban Thach Mat Village, as well as depictions of regional symbols including Hoi An’s Japanese Covered Bridge and the ancient banyan tree of Son Tra.
