In an evening of creativity and cultural exchange, art transcended borders
Contemporary art space Talyer 15 in Pasay City erupted with creativity, friendly conversations and cultural connections during Argentine artist Luca Martini’s exhibition opening on May 26, 2025. Celebrating the painter’s residency in the Philippines under the Siargao Artiste in Residence programme, it showcased everything he had learnt since arriving in March—from Filipino woodworking techniques to innovative practices and artisanship.
Hosted in collaboration with the Embassy of Argentina in the Philippines, the vernissage drew a diverse audience, including prominent figures in the diplomatic and cultural circles. In attendance were His Excellency Ricardo Bocalandro, Argentine Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary; Archbishop Charles John Brown III, Apostolic Nuncio to the Philippines; and Techie Hagedorn, among others. Alelee Aguilar Andanar and Ian Girón of Siargao Artiste in Residence were also recognised for their vision and dedication in creating platforms for global artistic exchange.

Martini’s alchemical creations blended sculpture, painting and technology to shape pieces that honour Filipino culture while innovating art as a medium to spark dialogue. Alongside his works were special collaborations with renowned Ilonggo artist Jeanroll Ejar, who specialises in drawing, painting, woodcarving and sculpture; and interdisciplinary artist Arvin Nogueras, more commonly known as Caliph8, who elevated the visuals with his unique sound experience.

As the evening continued with meaningful conversations, fine Argentine wine and a cheerful atmosphere humming with artistic appreciation, Ambassador Bocalandro expressed hope that these cultural exchanges would inspire future cooperation between Argentina and the Philippines. “Tonight, we celebrate the creative spirit that brings us together… Through art, we share not only our creativity but also our stories, traditions and perspectives. This evening, we have the privilege of witnessing this exchange through the unique vision of Luca Martini.”
