Even if you’re not an avid moviegoer, you’re bound to recognise some iconic songs and scores in media. These musical themes scratch a part of our brains that brings a touch of magic with each note played. Such is the night that the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) and the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra Society, Inc (PPOSI) promise to provide through their fundraising concert ‘Music, Movies, Magic’—a celebration of nostalgia, song, and Filipino talent.
“These melodies, which many have become the soundtrack to our lives, carry memories that are so personal, touching the very essence of our being—bringing joy, laughter, sadness, or even pain,” says Margie Moran Floirendo, President of PPOSI.

As for what audiences can expect from the concert, Music, Movies, Magic will contain performances from the PPO alongside several theatre and musical talents such as Arman Ferrer, Soprano Camille Lopez-Molina, Cris Villonco, Diomedes Saraza, Jr, Jonathan Velasco, Lara Maigue, Alice Reyes Dance Philippines, and the Philippine Madrigal Singers. These great Filipino artists will be under the baton of Maestro Gerard Salonga.

Concertgoers can also look forward to hearing many international and local musical scores over the decades such as Johann Strauss II’s Die Fledermaus Overture from The Great Waltz (1938), Ryan Cayabyab’s Iduyan Mo from Agila (1980) and Ennio Morricone’s Se from beloved classic, Cinema Paradiso (1988), among many others.

With Christmas quickly approaching, Music, Movies, Magic will conclude with festive songs performed by the Philippine Madrigal Singers and the PPO—featuring John Williams’ Somewhere in My Memory, Star of Bethlehem, and Merry Christmas! from the Home Alone (1990) soundtrack.
