The Asian Cultural Council (ACC) Philippines Foundation joins hands with León Gallery for its biggest fund-raiser of the year, the much-anticipated ACC Auction 2023. Set for February 18th at the Eurovilla I sale rooms, the ACC Auction will feature exceptional works from the Philippines’ most significant artists.
Since the yearly partnership between León Gallery and the Asian Cultural Council Philippines first began in 2015, 41 Filipino artists have been sent on grants abroad to pursue further studies, join critical observation tours, and work in residence with international institutions. This has covered the seven arts, particularly music, dance, theatre, painting, and sculpture as well as art criticism, conservation, and collection management.
Jaime Ponce de Leon, director of León Gallery, said “Our partnership with the ACC Foundation reflects our shared belief in the world-class talents of the Filipino artist—and the Philippine artistic eco-system. The ACC auction has supported artists such as Winner Jumalon, Aze Ong, Leeroy New, Nicky Luna, and also curators KingKong Art Projects and Joselina Cruz. León Gallery is honoured to have this opportunity to pay it forward for the development of our homegrown Filipino artists.

Headlining the auction will be Fruit Market by Anita Magsaysay-Ho which was exhibited at the legendary Philippine Art Gallery, the country’s first gallery for abstract art, in 1957. It comes from the collection of American millionaire Frank Anderson who owned one of the most successful lumber companies in the country.
Major works from the iconic mid-century moderns led by Hernando R. Ocampo, Vicente S. Manansala, Fernando Zobel, Manuel Rodriguez, Sr., and Nena Saguil are expected to ignite the auction floor. Two works from New York in the 1960s by the Filipino-American minimalist artist Leo Valledor are also on the block.

Not to be missed are artworks from the gilded age, highlighted not only by a rare Philippine landscape by Felix Resurreccion Hidalgo, the brothers Felix and Ramon Martinez, and the peerless master Fabian de la Rosa. A silver and ivory trove includes an important dagger inscribed with a dedication to Sr Don Ramon Despujol, nephew of the Spanish governor-general, who informed Rizal that he would be sent to Dapitan in exile, an exquisite Niño Dormido, and various saints in precious woods.
A Fernando Amorsolo of Elias and Salome depicts a scene from the lost chapter of Jose Rizal’s Noli Me Tangere. It comes from one of the celebrated collections that highlight this auction, from Don Benito Legarda Jr.
