To celebrate Kuala Lumpur’s heritage, creativity, and community and push for the prioritisation of arts and culture, the Kreatif KL Festival—presented by DBKL and Think City—turns the historic heart of Kuala Lumpur into a hive of cultural activity, with over a hundred activities taking place from September 5 to November 30.
From large-scale art installations and performances to intimate culinary experiences and interactive tours, the Kreatif KL Festival offers something for everyone. This three-month-long event is designed to showcase Kuala Lumpur’s rich heritage while highlighting the talents of both local and international creatives. This is a rare opportunity for locals and tourists to enjoy the arts while learning about the city’s rich history, beautiful architecture, and diverse population.

Some of the festival’s standout events include the KALAM: Confluence of Writers, the Indian Ocean Craft Triennial Companion Show, and Pentas Seni Merdeka, each celebrating different aspects of artistic expression and cultural heritage. Among the many artistic talents showcasing this festival are notable individuals like Dato’ Sri Bernard Chandran, filmmaker Tan Chui Mui, and well-known Indonesian choreographer Eko Supriyanto, guaranteeing a wide variety of voices and visions.
“Kreatif KL is not just about celebrating creativity; it’s about reconnecting with the city and exploring its soul,” said Dato’ Hamdan Abdul Majeed, managing director of Think City. “We aim to turn downtown KL into a thriving creative hub that reflects our rich cultural heritage while embracing new ideas and expressions.”
The Civic Precinct, Heritage Triangle, Petaling Street, and the Merdeka 118 Area are just a few of the important downtown KL areas where the festival is held. Everything from live performances and weekend markets to exhibitions and public art displays will take place at these venues. Visitors can immerse themselves in activities like Arts On The Move at Masjid Jamek LRT and Pasar Seni MRT stations, explore Peranakan culture at Warong Old China, and enjoy contemporary art installations in Kwai Chai Hong.
