Artists Kingsley Ng and Angel Hui have been announced to represent Hong Kong at the upcoming Venice Biennale in 2026
Artists Kingsley Ng and Angel Hui have been selected to represent Hong Kong at the Collateral Event of the 61st International Art Exhibition, La Biennale di Venezia, which runs from May to November 2026 in Venice, Italy.
Curated by the Hong Kong Museum of Art (HKMoA), the exhibition explores the poetic rhythms of everyday life while engaging in dialogue with the Biennale’s curatorial theme, In Minor Keys. Inspired by fleeting yet familiar moments from daily life in Hong Kong, the showcase encourages visitors to embark on a meditative journey of self-discovery within the city’s ever-changing tempo.
Both born and raised in Hong Kong, Ng and Hui draw deeply from the city’s cultural context and urban experiences. Their works reinterpret the rhythms and aesthetics of daily existence through diverse mediums such as light, sound and installation.

Ng, an established media artist, is recognised for his atmospheric, site-specific installations that expand viewers’ perceptions of place and time. His works have been presented in hotels and notable exhibitions both locally and abroad.
Hui, an emerging artist, is celebrated for integrating traditional Chinese cultural elements with contemporary forms of expression, reimagining everyday objects to evoke cross-cultural artistic dialogues. She most recently brought Hong Kong's tuck shops of old to life at the Affordable Art Fair this year in a project by the Hong Kong Tourism Board.
Together, these two observant artists capture the nuances of city life, transforming daily reflections into creative expression that bridges Hong Kong and Venice—two cosmopolitan hubs rich in artistic energy. Their artistic collaboration reveals both the vitality and accomplishment of Hong Kong’s contemporary art scene to a global audience.
The selection of artists followed a rigorous nomination and assessment process led by the HKMoA. Nominations were invited from tertiary institutions and professional art bodies, alongside artists who had been commissioned by the museums and offices of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) in recent years. The nomination list comprised more than 200 artists. A professional selection panel—including Museum Expert Adviser of the LCSD William Lim, HKMoA director Maria Mok and chairman of the Museum Advisory Committee Douglas So—shortlisted candidates for the museum’s final selection. From these, Ng and Hui were ultimately chosen to represent the city at La Biennale di Venezia 2026.
