A coalition of 30 Filipino artists has launched “Journeys”, a fundraising exhibition at Art Lounge Manila to support free children’s art workshops
Organised by Erehwon Art Foundation, Inc in cooperation with Art Lounge Manila (ALM), the exhibition Journeys opened last August 19 at the said art gallery’s location at The Podium mall in Mandaluyong. Running until August 30, the show directly channels proceeds from art sales to fund free, community-based art workshops for children in poor communities. This initiative aims to provide these children with a constructive creative outlet while steering them away from violence.

The project was set in motion by art conservator and Erehwon trustee June P Dalisay, who believes that early exposure to pleasant artistic experiences can positively influence the psycho-social outlook of the youth. By introducing creative expression early on, the project seeks to build resilience and foster positive mental development among underprivileged children.

To achieve this goal, the fundraising show Journeys has gathered an impressive, multi-generational roster of celebrated Filipino creators. The exhibition features the works of National Artist nominee Luis “Junyee” Yee, foremost contemporary sculptor Julie Lluch, and celebrated printmaker Pandy Aviado.

Reflecting the diverse backgrounds of its participants, the collection on display in Journeys presents a colourful mix of serene, thought-provoking, unusual and tongue-in-cheek creations. The artistic media span acrylics, oils, pen and ink, collages, watercolours, assemblages and eco-conscious sculptures, offering collectors a broad spectrum of contemporary Philippine art to acquire for a social cause.

Before assuming the Art and Culture Editor position, Franz has always had a penchant for visual and performing arts. He is passionate about exploring and writing about the local cultural scene and rediscovering the country’s storied past and rich heritage. Besides working on this luxury lifestyle magazine, Franz is an avid book reader, local traveller, museum-goer, chorister, and community theatre playwright.
Work
Franz earned a degree in Journalism from the University of Santo Tomas. He writes about local visual and performing artists and their craft; drinks wines, liquors, and spirits and talks about the creativity of their respective winemakers and master blenders; tries to learn more about business and investments; respects the tradition and artistry that go behind the making of watches and jewellery; and appreciates the genius of architecture and creative design.
As head of Tatler Philippines’ pool of writers, he helps them bring impactful and socially relevant stories to light.
