A giant of Hong Kong’s art scene, Chow Chun-fai is most famous for his paintings of scenes from films that—removed from their original context—can be read as snappy comments on the city today. This show features a new body of work: oil paintings of street scenes around the city.

The destruction of Kenya’s natural environment is shown in devastating detail in English photographer Nick Brandt’s series Inherit the Dust. Brandt travelled around the country photographing portraits of animals, which he then turned into life-size prints that are glued onto large panels and strategically placed around towns and cities—spaces where wildlife used to roam. The final images show these panels in situ, surrounded by pollution.

This exhibition is the first joint show of work by Jamaica-born, New York-based artist Nari Ward and South Africa-born, Berlin-based artist Robin Rhode, who both explore politics, history and identity in their work. 

Ward is best known for his sculptural installations made from found objects such as baby strollers, television sets, bottles and shopping carts that tackle big social and political questions about race, poverty and consumerism, while Rhode works in photography, video and sculpture.

Hong Kong street artist Lousy—best known for his signature tag of a square divided into two kissing figures, which he's spray-painted on walls around the city—is taking over Mihn Club in Sheung Wan from March 18 to 20. 

The show, Lousy Lounge, will feature an immersive, site-specific installation that combines large paintings on canvas with "bombing", a street-art term that describes covering surfaces with paint or other materials. Lousy will also release a series of limited-edition prints at the show.

Works by ink painter Zhang Jian-jun and American multimedia artist Barbara Edelstein are on show at the Alisan Fine Arts' Central gallery. The husband and wife make work individually, but both are inspired by the natural world, in particular water and plants.

An artist, activist, writer, editor and curator, 84-year-old Rasheed Araeen was a pioneer of minimalist sculpture in the 1960s before he branched out in the 1970s to make performances, photographs, paintings and sculptures that questioned the Eurocentrism of the British art world. Since then, Karachi-born, London-based Araeen has been an advocate for minority artists in the UK, especially those from Asia and Africa, and continued to make his own work, which has been exhibited around the world.

Mexican artist Bosco Sodi spent two weeks in Hong Kong late last year making a new series of work specifically for Axel Vervoordt Gallery in city. The paintings are all abstract explorations of the colour turquoise, inspired both by Sodi's time in the city and his interest in A Thousand Li of Rivers and Mountains, a 12-metre-long painting featuring deep blues completed by Wang Ximeng in 1113. Also on show is a group of sculptures shaped from raw earth that Sodi has dug from the ground around his studio in Oaxaca, Mexico.

Eight artists from South Korea who use indigo in their work are featured in this group exhibition, which explores the significance of the colour to Korean culture. The artists taking part are Choi Myoung Young, Choi Sun, Jang Young-Sook, Kim Woo Young, Kim Yongchul, Lee Kyouhong, Park Jisook and Park Yoon-Kyung.

New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Pompidou Centre in Paris are just two of the many international institutions that have collected works by Spanish artist Manolo Valdés, whose work spans drawing, painting, printmaking and sculpture. Much of his art features powerful women from history and mythology—fitting, seeing as March is women's history month.
