These awardees have helped develop the arts and culture scene in the country

After a long selection process, the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) has announced the individuals who will receive the prestigious Gawad CCP Para sa Sining 2024. This award is the highest honour given by the CCP to artists or groups in dance, music, theatre, film and broadcast arts, literature, visual arts, architecture, and allied arts and design who consistently produce outstanding works in their medium.

A special award, the Tanging Parangal ng CCP, is also given to individuals in the government and private sector for their outstanding efforts that have significantly contributed to cultural activities in the country.

The awardees for category A are Generoso “Gener” Caringal for his choreographic works that integrate ballet, modern dance, and folk dance. Jose Iñigo Homer “Joey” Ayala for his works as a composer, songwriter, and singer who uses indigenous musical instruments. Maria Lea Carmen Salonga for her achievements as a performing artist who has been recognised internationally, bringing the Philippines onto the world stage. Jose Lacaba, Jr for his great works of writing as a poet, essayist, screenwriter, and journalist. Miguel “Mike” De Leon for his work as a director, writer, producer, and cinematographer. Julie Lluch for her terracotta sculptures that mirror and reflect the wisdom she had acquired as she took on different life roles. Mario O’Hara was awarded posthumously for his work as a director, actor, and writer. Finally, Gino Gonzales was recognised for his use of non-conventional and everyday industrial and commercial materials.

For Category B, the award goes to the Loboc Children’s Choir for its performances that promote Bohol's heritage. Through its music, the choir has preserved its local heritage while strengthening and promoting the cultural identity of Boholanos.

Category C goes to Marilyn Gamboa for her contributions as a cultural administrator that have helped sustain cultural institutions and programs in Negros Occidental.

Senator Edgardo J Angara and Zenaida “Nedy” R Tantoco will also receive posthumously the Tanging Parangal ng CCP. Senator Angara was known for his advocacy for the arts, significantly contributing to its development in the country.

Tantoco’s philanthropic works have greatly benefited the CCP, its resident companies and its employees. As a stalwart supporter of the Philippine arts and culture scene as well as a CCP Trustee, she was able to raise funds for new musical instruments for the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra musicians.

The awarding ceremony will be held on September 20 at 7pm at the Samsung Performing Arts Theatre. The awardees will receive a citation, a medal, and a cash gift of PhP50,000.
