With a penchant for discovering new talents, the gallery officially launches a new space at Makati's premier lifestyle centre
Galleria Nicolas puts up-and-coming artists among a roster of veterans. This is, according to its managing director Carla J Teotico, what sets the gallery apart. "We do not just want to feature the masters, we also want to discover new talents and highlight [those] who need a platform to have their art discovered," she shares. And having a new space at Greenbelt 5, one of the premier lifestyle hubs in the metro, can and will make it closer to achieving its goal.
The gallery officially opened its new space to the public on January 16, with an inaugural exhibit by the renowned visual artist Dominic Rubio.

'Ilustrados,' the second in a trilogy of one-man exhibits, is Rubio’s way of paying homage to the Filipino educated class during the Spanish colonial period. Displayed in the halls of Galleria Nicolas are framed paintings and miniature sculptures depicting 'ilustrados' from different social classes and in different settings.
Employing the artistic technique of "miniaturismo," Rubio masterfully finessed minute accoutrements to a tee, adding a surreal whimsicality to his presentation of the customs and traditions of the enlightened class.

Galleria Nicolas is set to celebrate its 14th year in the industry this year, hallmarking its style of setting local, new artists a stage for broader recognition. Its gallery spaces are carefully constructed to reflect a relaxed environment that can serve as a haven amidst the hustle and bustle of the metropolis. "Greenbelt is a good area. [Our space here] is very wide and the clients will be able to find undiscovered talents here," Carla says.
