Artinformal showcases Marina Cruz’s new masterpieces inspired by the vintage dresses worn by the women in her family.
Nostalgic dresses uncovered from Marina Cruz’s grandmother’s closet have been the subject of the visual artist’s paintings over the years. Entitled “Fabric Skin,” Artinformal hosts from July 24 to August 11 the beautiful oil on canvas paintings of Cruz that showcase the dresses worn by her grandmother, mother, and aunts in their childhood. The series of ten paintings highlight vintage dresses dating from the 1950s as both objects of aesthetic pleasure and subjects of personal narrative. Through this exhibition, Cruz attempts to let the viewers uncover more about social history while making them personal testimonials as well of the women in her family.
Marina Cruz is an alumna of the University of the Philippines and graduated cum laude in her degree in Fine Arts. She already had several solo exhibitions both in local and international venues and is best known for winning the Philippine Art Awards in 2007 and Ateneo Art Award in 2008.
The Artinformal gallery is open from Monday to Friday from 10 AM to 7 PM and every Saturday from 10 AM to 6 PM.
