Behind every bold idea is someone willing to see its potential. De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde’s biennial platform, Benilde Open Design + Art, supports experimental and in-progress ideas at the intersection of art, design and technology
For its 2025-2026 edition, the programme focuses on the compelling theme, “Extension of Nature”. Recently highlighted on their Facebook and Instagram pages, this year’s initiative has invited creators to tackle sustainability and rethink humanity’s relationship with the environment through innovations such as kinetic art, responsive ecosystems, and adaptive technologies. To help visionary concepts move from imagination to real-world realisation, a jury will select finalists, each of whom will receive a production grant of up to Php300,000. These realised works will eventually culminate in a public presentation.
To evaluate the submissions, Benilde Open has assembled an international panel of judges comprising leading voices in design, architecture, technology, and contemporary culture. Coming from museums, universities, global companies, and cultural institutions, the jury reflects what the initiative is all about: the space where art, design, and innovation meet to imagine future-facing ideas rooted in the world we live in.
Each judge brings a distinct perspective, united by a shared commitment to champion bold, thoughtful work that pushes boundaries. Here is the distinguished jury shaping what comes next:

Together, the panel of judges will help define the next chapter of Benilde Open Design + Art by identifying projects submitted during last year’s call for proposals that reflect the spirit of experimentation, sustainability, and creative ambition. Their combined expertise ensures that the selected finalists won’t just challenge conventions but also spark conversations about how design can extend, respond to, and evolve with nature.
The finalists chosen by this international panel will be announced in the coming months, marking the next exciting stage of Benilde Open Design + Art.
Meanwhile, feel free to visit the exhibition Poets of Physics at the Museum of Contemporary Art and Design Manila, featuring the works of Aki Sasamoto, Bagus Pandega, David Medalla, Fischli and Weiss, and Ian Carlo Jaucian. This show is part of the Benilde Open Design + Art with its theme “Extension of Nature”. Drawing its title from Medalla’s quote, the exhibition explores how contemporary artists have continued this radical proposition of art machines that examine natural conditions while exploring their capacity for transcendence.
