Located along the harbourfront in Fortress Hill on Hong Kong’s island side, East Coast Park is now officially open, offering citizens a beautiful public space to relax and enjoy some fresh air amid the hustle and bustle of the city
East Coast Park Precinct, a new, pet-friendly harbourfront space was officially opened to the public last Saturday (September 25) in Fortress Hill. Originally a works area for the Central-Wan Chai Bypass project, the precinct has now been redeveloped into a waterfront park to provide urbanites with some much-needed respite from work and opportunities to relax, socialise and enjoy family activities with spectacular harbour views.
Designed with a theme inspired by “windows”, the newly opened phase 1 area spans across 9,800 square feet and completes with facilities and outdoor installations featuring window frames of different sizes. This design is meant to allow visitors to marvel at the Victoria Harbour from different angles, as if the scenery is being viewed through a window.

In addition to providing a lawn area, benches and shelters that are perfect for strolling and lounging, the precinct also offers a playground for kids to ride on balance bikes. Some of the sloping seawalls above the sea level in the area have been thoughtfully designed with slides and safety floor mats as well. Filled with a slew of picture-worthy spots, the precinct is open 24 hours a day and pet-friendly which welcomes visitors to bring their beloved furry friends for a relaxing day out.
Another standout feature of the precinct is the access to the breakwater. With a length of approximately 100m, it is the very first breakwater in Hong Kong that opens to the public, where visitors can admire 360-degree harbour views from a unique angle.
Design work for the remaining phases of the precinct has already commenced, and it’s expected that by the end of this year, the Pierside Precinct (Phase 2), the Water Sports and Recreation Precinct (Phase 2) and the Revitalised Typhoon Shelter Precinct will be opened to the public.
How to get to East Coast Park Precinct: The park can be reached from the Fortress Hill MTR Station within a 7-minute walk. From the MTR station, visitors can walk along Oil Street and Electric Road, then walk to the end of Watson Road to reach the park.
