Finally, Malaysians will be able to stream and binge on content from The Walt Disney’s family of companies

The curtains have been raised on the Disney+ Hotstar Malaysia website which has been showing a static page for a month and it's now official: Disney+ Hotstar Malaysia is live, and it boasts a slew of content from The Walt Disney's group of companies and more!

This includes popular series such as The Walking Dead, Grey's Anatomy, Fresh Off The Boat, Prison Break, Lost, How I Met Your Mother, Glee, and more, as well as award-winning flicks such as Nomadland, the locally-produced Guang, The Shape of Water, The Grand Budapest Hotel, and Life of Pi, to name a few.

Of course, it goes without saying that Disney+ Hotstar Malaysia is also home to a smorgasbord of animated films, live-action Disney adaptations, box office-breaking hits, musicals, every Disney princess movie you can imagine, and all-time fan favourite classics.

The Disney+ Hotstar app has also been rolled out for users in Malaysia via Google Play for Android devices and App Store for iOS. It's also available for Android TV and Apple TV. Astro's Movies Pack subscribers will be able to activate their Disney+ Hotstar Malaysia subscription at 12pm today.

Disney has officially announced the arrival of Disney+ Hotstar, its highly anticipated video streaming platform, in Malaysia on June 1, 2021. This comes after months of speculations that Disney+ will be rolling out in Malaysia before the year ends.

While you daydream about all the titles you’ll be able to watch once Disney+ Hotstar Malaysia makes its debut, here are some quick facts to prep you ahead of its arrival.

Why is it called Disney+ Hotstar?

Hotstar was an Indian subscription video-on-demand streaming service owned and operated by Star India. In 2019, it was acquired by 21st Century Fox, which was later acquired by Disney. Disney then announced plans to integrate Disney+ with Hotstar.

Disney+ Hotstar boasts Hotstar’s existing infrastructure, content, and userbase, with added Disney+ original programming, as well as films and TV series from its main content brands.

What can we expect to watch?

In a nutshell: Plenty.

House of Mouse fans can expect over 800 films and 18,000 episodes of popular TV series from The Walt Disney’s family of companies including Disney, Marvel, Pixar, Lucasfilm, National Geographic, FX, 20th Century Studios, and many more.

It’s a commercial-free programming feast for the eyes with a variety of amazing content such as The Mandalorian, WandaVision, Hamilton, and The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, and films such as Avengers: Endgame, Aladdin, and Frozen.

Disney+ Hotstar Malaysia will also stream exclusive premieres and blockbusters from leading Malaysian studios, as well as award-winning Malaysian cinema releases and homegrown hits such as J2: J Retribusi, Zombitopia, Ada Hantu, Ejen Ali, Upin & Ipin, and more.

How much will Disney+ Hotstar cost?

A Disney+ Hotstar Malaysia subscription will cost you RM54.90 for three months (RM18.30 per month). It’ll be made available to users on both Android and iOS devices, as well as compatible Smart TVs.

Astro subscribers will be pleased to know that Disney+ Hotstar will also be available in partnership with Astro for Movies Pack customers. From May 4, 2021, customers can sign up for the Movies Pack that will come with Disney+ Hotstar via astro.com.my/Disney as well as via authorised retailers and dealers.
