Get ready for all that jazz as the iconic Broadway musical ‘Chicago’ makes its triumphant return to Manila at The Theatre at Solaire in March 2027
A dimly lit stage, the sharp snap of a bowler hat, and the unmistakable opening notes of All That Jazz will soon electrify the capital once again. In a city that embraces the sharp wit and bold spectacle of live theatre, a familiar tale of murder, greed, corruption, and fame is making a triumphant comeback.
GMG Productions, in association with Barry and Fran Weissler and David Ian, has announced the return of the Tony Award-winning musical Chicago for a limited run from March 9 to 28, 2027, at The Theatre at Solaire. This engagement marks a significant milestone for the production, which first inaugurated the venue during its original Manila run in 2014.

“Chicago is one of those extraordinary shows that never goes out of style,” said Carlos Candal, CEO of GMG Productions. “It’s sexy, sophisticated, provocative and wickedly funny, with incredible music, iconic Bob Fosse choreography, and a story of fame, ambition, scandal, and celebrity that remains as relevant as ever.”
He emphasised the sentimental value of the venue choice, noting that bringing the show back to the stage it opened more than a decade ago feels like a genuine homecoming. “What I love most about Chicago is its edge,” Candal added. “It’s glamorous and seductive, but also dark, witty, and dangerous. From All That Jazz and Cell Block Tango to Razzle Dazzle, it’s filled with songs and moments that have become part of musical theatre history.”

Set against the decadence of the 1920s, Chicago follows Roxie Hart, a housewife and nightclub dancer on trial for murdering her on-the-side lover. To avoid conviction, she hires slick criminal lawyer Billy Flynn to transform her crime into a barrage of sensational headlines, pitting her against rival cellmate Velma Kelly. The musical features a legendary book by Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse, music by John Kander, and lyrics by Fred Ebb.
Now celebrating 30 years on Broadway, the revival has played more than 11,700 performances, reached 38 countries, and been seen by over 35 million people worldwide. As the longest-running American musical in Broadway history, it has earned six Tony Awards, including Best Musical Revival, alongside two Olivier Awards and a Grammy.
Barry Weissler, producer of the musical, acknowledged the show’s enduring appeal and its special connection to the Philippine audience. “It was such an honour to be chosen as the inaugural production at the grand opening of the Theatre at Solaire back in 2014, so for Chicago to return to Manila next year and take that same stage again is a real homecoming,” he shared. “John Kander, Fred Ebb, and Bob Fosse created a prescient masterpiece that is ever relevant in this moment and time. Audiences are in for a real treat. The show is as hot as ever!”

The Manila stop is part of the production’s 30th Anniversary global tour. David Ian, co-producer at Crossroads Live, highlighted the anticipation from the cast and crew. “We’re delighted to announce the return of Chicago to the Theatre at Solaire in March 2027 as part of its red hot 30th Anniversary global tour,” Ian said. “Chicago truly is the triple threat musical that combines the sensational choreography of Bob Fosse, with the master melodies of John Kander and satirical lyrics of Fred Ebb. Our incredible company can’t wait to perform Chicago in Manila, home of such an enthusiastic musical theatre audience. Get ready to paint the town!”
The international tour features a dedicated cast ready to bring the era to life. Sarah Soetaert takes on the role of Roxie Hart, starring alongside Djalenga Scott as the formidable Velma Kelly. Dan Burton steps into the shoes of lawyer Billy Flynn, while Jenny Fitzpatrick plays Mama Morton. The principal lineup also includes Neil Ditt as Amos Hart and Nathan Kiley as Mary Sunshine. An expansive ensemble will execute the show’s demanding choreography, supported by dance captains and swings such as Yoan Grosjean and Michelle Attardo.

Tickets will be available via TicketWorld, with early access rolling out in phases. A UnionBank presale offering a ten per cent discount runs from October 12 to 15, followed by a GMG Productions waitlist presale on October 16. General public ticket sales commence on October 19. Given the mature themes of the production—which include violence, murder, sexual content, and smoking onstage—children below four years old will not be admitted, and parental guidance is advised.
As the countdown to March 2027 begins, Manila’s theatre enthusiasts can prepare for a sharp, cynical, and spectacular night out. For Roxie Hart and Velma Kelly, the spotlight never truly fades. When the curtain rises next spring, Chicago will prove once again that a story of scandal and jazz is always ready for an encore.
