Here’s what we know so far about 9Works Theatrical’s ‘Liwanag sa Dilim’

Under the pen and direction of Robbie Guevara, 9Works Theatrical kicks off their 2025 season with Liwanag Sa Dilim—a new original Filipino musical featuring the songs of Rico Blanco. Initially announced in September after the closing show of Once on This Island, the theatre company has just recently announced its cast of 23. From theatre veterans such as Raul Montesa and Lani Ligot to new blood like Lucylle Tan and Khalil Ramos, the production is set to electrify the stage with Blanco and Rivermaya’s classic hits.

The musical follows Elesi, an orphan boy on a quest to learn more about his past after his adoptive parents died. Along the way, he befriends Cris and the two fight to help the oppressed and underprivileged.

Santi Santamaria, 9Works Theatrical’s managing director and executive producer, shared that Liwanag sa Dilim will be very different from other productions like Ang Huling El Bimbo and Buruguduystunstugudunstuy. “Without spoiling, you can expect a lot of wows,” he says.

With a cast this large, it’s safe to assume that Liwanag sa Dilim will be an ensemble piece—making the production feel like a concert. The complete lineup includes Denzel Chang, Lucylle Tan, Brianna Bunagan, Derrick Gozos, Mark Tayag, Iya Villanueva, Paji Arce, Chez Cuenca, Lani Ligot, Rica Laguardia, Jasper John Jimenez, Raul Montesa, Jon Abella, Boo Gabunada, Neomi Gonzales, Rita Daniela, Arnel Carrion, Alexa Ilacad, Nicole Omillo, Vien King, CJ Navato, Khalil Ramos, and Anthony Rosaldo.

Liwanag sa Dilim premieres on March 7 at the RCBC Plaza, Makati City. Tickets are on sale now. For more information, visit 9Works Theatrical on their social media pages.
