Who is excited for Asian Games 2018?
August, the month of Independence, sparkles with awesome happenings, from the 18th Asian Games to the Jember Fashion Carnival, the GIIAS motor show, painting exhibitions, concerts, and a jazz festival.
A wide selection of exclusive artworks in the collections of five presidential palaces will be on display for a whole month at Hall A of Galeri Nasional, the National Gallery in Jakarta starting from August 1. Open daily except public holidays; free entrance; time: 10am–7pm.
The country’s biggest auto show, GIIAS, is back at the Indonesia Convention Exhibition (ICE) in BSD City in Tangerang. Starting from August 2, the 10-day fair features 27 auto brands and 10 motorcycle brands with specifically designed models to meet the high expectations of car connoisseurs. Tickets: Rp100,000; time: 11am-9pm.
Ciputra Artpreneur Museum will celebrate Hendra Gunawan’s 100th anniversary with inspiring exhibitions showcasing the best artworks by the great maestro. Curators Agus Dermawan and Aminudin Siregar grouped the artworks in a “Prisoner of Hope” retrospective, while curator Rifky Effendy coordinates 70 contemporary artists to partake in “Hendra Gunawan Spectrum”, which will run from August 5 until August 16.
The 17th Jember Fashion Carnival, a costume parade annually featured in the East Java city of Jember, has “Asia Light” as its main theme. Inspired by the local pageantry of Reyog Ponorogo, the six-day festival, starting from August 7, is centred along a 3.6km catwalk and is expected to attract thousands from around the archipelago and abroad.
The 6th Ubud Village Jazz Festival will jazz up Bali for two days (August 10 and 11) at The Arma Museum Garden. A string of legends like the Benny Green Trio as well as rising stars like Triple Ace in Colours are ready to light up the community-based event. Tickets: from Rp500,000.
The 18th Asian Games will kick off in Jakarta and Palembang and last for 16 consecutive days, featuring 462 events in 40 disciplines contested by 11,200 athletes from 45 member countries. For the first time, esports and canoe polo will be featured as demonstration sports. Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium in Jakarta will host the opening and closing ceremonies of the games. Starting from August 18.
On August 20, Grammy Award-winner Clean Bandit will quench the thirsts of avid fans at the “Clean Bandit Live in Jakarta – Love You Tour 2018” at The Kasablanka Hall in Jakarta. Aside from hits like “Rockebye”, sung by Anne Marie and Sean Paul, the English band will introduce a new single entitled “Solo”. Tickets: Rp800,000; showtime: 8pm.
Aficionados will celebrate as the Indonesia Convention Exhibition (ICE) in BSD City lights up with excitement when alternative rock band Paramore, from Tennessee in the US, stage an epic concert on August 25. Tickets for the “Paramore – Tour Four 2018” are set at Rp1,200,000; showtime: 7pm.
