Bobby Ting brings us through the The Republic by Elica, which just won Best Residential Development (East Malaysia) at the recent South East Asia Property Awards (Malaysia) 2014.
Fresh from its win at the South East Asia Property Awards (Malaysia) 2014 for Best Residential Development (East Malaysia), The Republic, the maiden project for high-rise condominiums in Sarawak by developer Elica Sdn Bhd already has a solid fanbase even before its completion due in mid-2015.
Designed by award-winning design and architectural firm, ZDR, The Republic consists of two towers, each divided into only 12 floors. Each floor also houses only two apartments each, bringing the total number of units to only a small sum of 48. Located at Lorong Kempas 8, one of Kuching’s most exclusive addresses, it is also worth mentioning that it is the only high-rise residence in the surrounding area, assuring uninterrupted panoramic view of the Kuching skyline.
To get into more detail, we speak to managing director of Elica Sdn Bhd, Bobby Ting, to learn more about this new stalwart property.
Congratulations on winning Best Residential Development (East Malaysia) with The Republic. What are your feelings and what does the win mean for Elica?
The Republic is Elica’s maiden project for high rise condominiums in Sarawak, therefore we wanted to make a distinct product which stands out. This award means a lot to Elica, being the first development of its kind. It has generated a lot of interest as well as speculation. The win instills confidence in the product we have created. We are making a landmark for the future residents of The Republic even before its completed construction.
Share with us some of the highlights of The Republic that won it the title.
The Republic is meant to emulate resort living in the heart of Borneo. It has 24-hour concierge and security, CCTV, private lifts with card access systems, Honeywell video intercom and secure underground car park.
Dipping in an infinity salt-water pool will be a norm in The Republic and you can book the BBQ area on your touch screen Honeywell smart home system to reserve the space. The Republic also has tennis and basketball courts available on top of a fully-equipped airconditioned gym. For work or for play, the function rooms and meeting rooms will be there for booking too. For the kids, they can study in peace at the in-house library.
How long will it take for The Republic to be materialised, from conceptualisation stage to estimated completion?
We started planning the project mid 2012. With all the necessary approvals obtained, we started construction only in July 2013. We are satisfied with the pace of construction that’s going on at the moment, and the target completion is mid-2015.
In your own words, why do you think The Republic is set to be a property landmark in Kuching?
The Republic offers the lowest density product, the last of what is available in Kuching with only 48 private homes in a 2-acre land parcel, to give you wonderful sense of luxurious space. The Republic is luxury at a more affordable price, with the best value-for-money return compared to nearby cities, which would cost 3 times the price with similar design attributes and facilities.
