Love is in the air, and it's all thanks to these sensual scents!

It takes one whiff to woo a lover, and neuroscientists would agree.

According to experts as seen in a Harvard report, when the nose picks up a distinctive smell, the odour would travel to the limbic system which includes regions that store emotion and memory. It's a thrilling experience which explains why most people use the power of smell to set the mood. Even you can take advantage of the benefits of aromatherapy by filling the air with the aroma of oils, herbs, or aromatic plants that researchers believe can be uplifting.

In the past, the people of ancient Greece, India, Egypt and China have created their own concoction of oils and herbs mostly to treat the sick or honour the divine and the undead. Experts had only discovered the stimulating effects that aromatherapy brings in the late 19th century and further developed in the 20th century.

Today, people are able to indulge in aromatherapy and its positive effects, such as enhancing sensuality.

Oils and herbs to look for

There are several oils that are reputed as love-inducing essentials such as peppermint, lavender, and ylang-ylang which is known for their energising effects. If you need to boost your spirits, trust that these scents will help do the trick.

Relax the body completely using vanilla, holy basil, and cedarwood. Vanilla, which is often found in perfumes, can also help relieve stress and calm the body. This aroma is what both men and women often find alluring. Holy basil does the same thing to the body as it acts as an adaptogen, a natural substance that allows the body to adapt to stress. Cedarwood also helps alleviate stress and can help you and your partner relax.

Rose oil also helps release a surge of dopamine in the brain which is said to give pleasure and satisfaction. You can fill your home with this scent by buying items like the Bougie Roses from Diptyque which is made with flowery notes.

Wake up and smell the scent of clove oil. Although it has been used in perfumes (and often used to lift middle notes in fragrances), you can pour a few drops of clove oil into the diffuser and notice how it can improve your mood.

The smell of pumpkin is also appealing to most men, especially when combined with lavender, according to a study conducted by The Smell and Taste Treatment and Research Foundation of Chicago.

While these scents are helpful when used individually, they are also found to be more effective when blended with other aromas. Brands like Aesop, DS & Durga, and Cire Trudon to name a few, combine different notes together, creating varied fragrances that are heavenly. Fill your home with these scents and prepare to experience a state of euphoria right at home!
