Explore how Claire Thompson Design infuses timeless design elements into this expansive Mississippi home, creating a family sanctuary that will age with grace
Amid the fast pace of modern living, tranquillity has become the clearest sign of luxury. This five-bedroom residence in Ridgeland, Mississippi, is the clearest distillation of that truth, designed by Claire Thompson. Set within a leafy enclave, the home is nestled under a canopy of mature trees, bringing an undeniable sense of timeless design to this exclusive neighbourhood.
“We really wanted the home to feel collected and classic—like it had been there for hundreds of years,” Thompson mused. “Travel and old-world Europe are a constant inspiration, particularly with the way natural materials age and patina over time.”

Such a considered design story is immediately noticeable in the formal living room, which is built around an antique French limestone fireplace that dates back to the late 1800s. Underfoot, white oak flooring sourced from Belgium runs throughout the ground floor, reflecting a material celebration that adds cohesion to the entire Mississippi home.
One of the most notable features of the room is a Port Eliot card table, paired with antique Queen Anne chairs from Carter Louise. To complete the vignette, layers of 19th-century artwork reflect Thompson’s deliberate approach and feel gathered over time. “The level of curation in this one little corner really brings life to the entire room,” Thompson enthused. To maintain this contemplative atmosphere, cylindrical light features pool and add soft dimension to every space.
Aside from the home’s grand entertaining rooms, Thompson paid close attention to its connective spaces. In the hallways, panelled walls feature detailed millwork, while a checkered limestone floor creates a dynamic rhythm underneath. “These spaces create rhythm throughout the home and elevate everyday movement into something more intentional and architectural,” said Thompson.
Tucked underneath the stairwell is another memorable nook in the Mississippi home: the bar. Plaster walls are lifted by crown moulding, and a marble slab adds considerable drama to the space. “The attention to detail to tuck this bar in and not have that space wasted was brilliant,” she shared. The bar opens onto a cosy lounge, creating a seamless place for entertaining family and friends.

The kitchen continues the home's commitment to material integrity, with natural stone countertops that will continuously reflect the home’s usage over time. Another notable feature of the home is its seamless connection to the outdoors, with its considered landscaping and tranquil pool area. “The flow of the home feels seamless and was thoughtfully planned so that the backyard feels like an extension of the interiors,” Thompson mused. “The layout is really perfect for entertaining, while still having intimate areas tucked away for cosy day-to-day life.”
Moving into the more private areas of the home, the principal suite is an undeniable reflection of elegance and comfort. The bathrooms feature an intricate blend of limestone and marble that continue the home's material language in more intimate registers, creating a sanctuary for its homeowners to unwind in each day.

Altogether, the Mississippi home is the product of a sustained collaboration, as Thompson had worked with the client across two homes previously. This third installation reflects the homeowners’ personalities brilliantly, particularly through the collection of artworks that find new context and purpose within the home’s new walls. “It was important to use natural materials, collected antiques, and thoughtfully placed modern twists that will become more beautiful as the home ages with the homeowners,” said Thompson. “While the home feels grand, it is still very welcoming.”
