This elegantly orchestrated Serangoon Garden home by Mr Shopper Studio reveals how emotion and innovation can coexist in a contemporary setting

The transformation of this 4,059 sq ft four-bedroom semi-detached house in Serangoon Garden was undertaken by Mr Shopper Studio and completed in June 2025, following a six-month renovation. The homeowners had sought interiors that project warmth while maintaining a poised balance of modern elegance and comfort.

Responding to the spatial constraints of the site, the studio devised a precise plan to optimise functionality. To the owners, accustomed to larger quarters, the design allowed familiar pieces of furniture to remain integral, adding character and resonance. Their extensive art collection, gathered over years of travel, was also carefully placed to enhance the renewed interiors rather than overwhelm them.

Warmly Bold

A home often mirrors the spirit of its occupants. Here, the design introduces fluid circulation, abundant daylight and a series of warm, open spaces. Materiality was carefully considered, with rich surfaces and finely judged finishes ensuring that luxury never compromises on practicality.

At the entryway, a sculptural column partially encloses a figure hoisting a sphere, establishing a theatrical moment of arrival. Beyond lies the living room, anchored by a white grand piano. Slatted timber screens offset by concealed cove lighting lend rhythm and intimacy, while the interplay of pale walls and darker accents sets the stage for a nuanced layering of textures.

The route continues towards kitchen and dining, conceived as an extended gathering hub. A generous island doubles as both preparation counter and social surface, while a round chandelier above the dining table brings intimacy to the heart of the home. Carefully positioned artworks further personalise the sequence of spaces.

Evergreen Refinement

An indoor garden lounge adjoining the living and dining zones strengthens the connection to the outdoors—apt in tropical Singapore. Outfitted with rattan-inspired furniture, botanical wallcoverings and natural wood, it takes on the air of a conservatory: tranquil, airy, and restorative.

The master suite, comprising the bedroom, bathroom and wardrobe, illustrates the studio’s attention to both performance and atmosphere. “The layout was carefully planned to maximise natural light, improve circulation and create zones for privacy without compromising openness,” says studio founder Ken Lee.

Intelligent storage is woven seamlessly into the architecture. The wardrobe, conceived as an open gallery of dressing and display areas, incorporates a custom jewellery case reflecting the homeowner’s past as a jewellery designer, alongside a dedicated handbag showcase. Discreet lighting transforms the collection into an illuminated feature akin to a boutique interior.

Layered Elegance

Richly textured wall treatments in the master bedroom and study introduce depth and tactility. In the study, 3D wallpaper depicting scene of blossoms and birds enlivens the contemplative space. In the bedroom, ginkgo leaves cascade behind the headboard, instilling serenity in the retreat.

The master bathroom is equally refined, with bathtub, walk-in shower, dual-sink counter and vanity. Storage is cleverly articulated: open shelving contrasts with concealed compartments behind glass, maintaining clarity of form. The powder room makes a dramatic statement with a carved marble basin and ornate mirror, turning utility into a vignette of elegance.

The homeowners recognised the considered detailing applied throughout the adobe and voiced much delight at the outcome.
