Livspace transforms a Singapore penthouse into a beautiful sanctuary for a dynamic and sociable family

With its magnificent views of central Singapore and spacious footprint, this penthouse apartment already had many dream qualities. Measuring just under 7,000 sq
ft, the four-bedroom duplex unit located in the Yong An Park condominium in River Valley is the home of the Khattar family, who wanted a combination of spaces tailored to each inhabitant’s needs.

Art has a special place in the family’s heart, and is a key feature of the home design. The wife, Ritika Khattar is the founder and CEO of Phi Events, a company which specialises in bringing and presenting modern and contemporary art in Singapore. She and her banker husband wanted a modern interior and stylish spaces where they can entertain their clients and guests, while their two college-going sons wanted an outdoor terrace and indoor lounge where they could unwind with their friends.

It was also crucial for the couple to have a conducive home office, as well as home automation elements well-integrated into the interior. They enlisted Andrea Rodriguez Junquera of Livspace Singapore, the creative mind behind the beautiful makeover of this apartment, to turn the family’s vision into reality.

For this project, the firm took inspiration from the occupants’ personalities and lifestyle. “We were given a clear brief to transform the penthouse, with a focus on plush materials and premium finishes for a luxurious look,” shares Junquera. “We wanted to give the space a contemporary look, combining greenery with a modern
and luxurious interior while sticking to a neutral palette.”

To create a memorable first impression, the walls of the entryway are handsomely clad in mirrors, and lead to a playful sculpture that greets guests. A marble-inlay border on the stone flooring adds to the luxurious look, “to provide a warm welcome as one steps into the home”, says Junquera. This transitional space connects to the double-volume living and dining areas. Here, grand chandeliers help to draw attention to the lofty height of this space.

Plush soft furnishings create a comfortable environment for the family and their guests. The same sense of modern luxury is conveyed in areas such as the powder room and rooftop, which employ a similar mix of materials and hues. “We curated very different spaces and atmospheres in the home, maintaining a consistent design direction through the same detailing and being selective with our choice of materials,” says Junquera.

The penthouse also features an outdoor rooftop area, which is the perfect site for evening soirées under the stars; it’s among the key highlights of the residence, says the designer.

Quiet time

When it came to the bedrooms, these spaces were carefully tailored to match the requirements of each family member, resulting in calming zones that reflect their users’ preferences and tastes. “A different palette was created for each of the bedrooms and en-suite bathrooms, translating the same design concept into a warm and inviting [atmosphere],” adds Junquera.

She particularly enjoyed designing a display cabinet with custom jewellery drawers in the master bedroom, which drew inspiration from the look of luxury boutiques. Another highlight is the onyx wall in the master bathroom, which has been backlit with LED lighting for dramatic impact. “We were also particularly pleased with the decision to go with premium wall coverings that provide an upscale and durable finish with minimal maintenance,” she says.

Junquera is proud of what she and her team at Livspace have achieved with this home. “Our vision is to deliver beautifully designed homes to our clients. We aim to make our designs count by helping homeowners identify what suits their needs, and bring them to life,” says Junquera. It is evident in this abode, which fulfilled the brief to a T.
