10 Chancery Lane Gallery owner Katie de Tilly took us on a tour of her secluded yet artistic Sai Kung residence

Located at a hilltop in the scenic Sai Kung, 10 Chancery Lane Gallery owner and co-president of the Hong Kong Art Gallery Association Katie de Tilly’s house does not even have an address but two sets of compass bearings that state the location of the gallerist’s artistic abode. “I find it an adventure every day,” says Katie with a knowing chuckle when asked about her thoughts on the exclusive location of the de Tilly residence.

With the location proven to be a constant challenge to taxi drivers in Hong Kong, we knew we were in for something special. The three-storey residence is an art museum on its own as different corners are carefully curated and decorated with de Tilly’s favourite artworks by various artists such as Frog King and Wang Keping.

While the Balinese fountain and stone statues showing peaceful facial expressions instantly teleport us to Bali, the great outdoors that surround the de Tilly residence somehow remind us of the sunny California. As the Los Angeles native says, "it’s a very different climate, but we do have our California days".
