Azure and gilded accents elevate an apartment thoughtfully crafted by Singapore-based studio Nidhi Jain, which pairs these vibrant touches with organic forms and graceful arches

Amid a backdrop of tranquil greenery in central Singapore is a 3,800sqft apartment boasting a beautiful framework. “Our task was to design a glamorous house for a couple from the finance industry,” shares Nidhi Jain, the eponymous founder of Singapore-based architecture and interior design firm Studio Nidhi Jain. The architect, worked on the project with her partner and interior designer Emily Loberg.

Balancing the overall palette of azure and gold, the look is brought together with two stunning abstract carpets selected from Nasser Nishaburi, which echoes the colours used in this living room beautifully. These rugs also contribute to the layered look of the interior. The team also designed and created beautiful high-gloss arches as the key elements for the apartment.

As entertaining guests is an essential part of the owners’ lifestyle, a fully-equipped bar was included in the dining area in the open-plan living room.

A marble-topped bar counter fronts custom-made gold and glass shelves displaying a curated collection of whiskies and gin. The bar acts as a connector between the living and dining spaces. “The idea was to encourage people to move around and enjoy every corner of this big, open living space,” says Nidhi Jain.

The homeowners enjoy using the spacious balcony, which overlooks the lush canopy of trees, some of which are more than 100 years old. While the overall aesthetic emphasised a stylish, modern approach, the designers believed in celebrating organic forms, so they filled the space with rattan outdoor furniture and nature-inspired accents.

“With absolutely no idea what February had to bring in, we signed the contract with the homeowners in January, promising our clients that by April they could let their existing house be rented out,” says Nidhi Jain. “With Singapore being one of the first few countries affected by the pandemic, we knew things were not looking promising! But we managed to turn this project around within 45 days; it was like running a marathon with the energy and speed of a 100m sprint!”

Adds Emily Loberg: “Our client was grateful when, one week after the move-in, Singapore announced all borders closed and full lockdown. They had just moved from a 1,700sqft apartment to a lovingly designed 3,800sqft house! The finishing touches were made after we got into phase two (of the pandemic regulations). This project taught us a lot of things, especially how important teamwork is!”
