Amid the lush, gated enclave of Dubai’s Green Community West, one thing immediately stands out: its charming cobblestone streets contrast with the city’s towering glass structures. For a 4,300-square-foot bungalow in the village, designed by Amna Chaudhry Interiors, the goal was to blend Mediterranean ease with the theatricality of European homes.
The designers behind this Dubai home transformation had worked on Green Community bungalows before. When the team was approached by a professional couple with two young children, they already had an intuitive understanding of these properties’ particular qualities. “For me, the Spanish Revival architecture and the light that the bungalows get make them a very fun project,” reflected Chaudhry. After consulting with the clients, the team wanted to prioritise the family’s extensive use of the outdoor areas, as well as spaces that blend casual gatherings with architectural elegance.

Originally compartmentalised, the floor plan was transformed to accommodate a more open setup. Upon entering the space, a custom checkerboard marble floor acts as a visual anchor with its geometric precision. Stepping into the living room, one is awed by the dramatic archways and steel-and-glass doors, which recall historical European design through a contemporary lens. A custom-designed burgundy sectional anchors the room alongside a commanding marble coffee table.

Throughout the home, Amna Chaudhry's team emphasised a celebration of materials that will age honestly and durably. Porcelain slab flooring, wool rugs and marble accents were chosen to withstand daily family life and frequent entertaining while maintaining visual appeal over time.
In Dubai’s climate, where heat and humidity are constant fixtures, these selections represent practical sustainability as much as aesthetic preference. Waterproof porcelain flooring and performance fabrics ensure the home’s indoor-outdoor living remains genuinely functional. Another notable feature in the home is its use of art, including commissioned pieces from the homeowner’s mother.

Connected to the living room, the kitchen makes a bold chromatic statement through a deep green hue that echoes the nearby garden. To achieve the clients’ desire for a seamless flow between the indoors and the outdoors, the dining area similarly feels glassed-in by the garden. While experiencing gastronomic delights, the guests can witness the family’s prized bonsai tree, which has become a living artwork of its own.

Moving onto the more private spaces of the Dubai home, the atmosphere shifts towards that of a jewel-toned sanctuary. The children’s bedrooms are notable for their blend of personality and design coherence; in one case, the child requested a pop of yellow in his room. This unexpected, whimsical touch is woven through the room’s furnishings. Meanwhile, custom furniture in the primary bedroom maintains the bespoke quality evident in public spaces, ensuring that the parents can retreat into a serene space after a long day.
