Evoking images of warm minimalism, Sashya Thind has transformed this family home in Weston, Massachusetts into a true sanctuary
Amid the relentless pace of modern living, there is a quiet demand for a slower, more intentional pace. That gentle hum drew Sashya Thind into this 5,900 square foot contemporary home in Weston, Massachusetts.
Here, she allowed natural light to filter into the space, ensuring that the spaces flow seamlessly into each other while maintaining a distinct design identity. One notable feature is the homeowners’ collection of global artworks from Brazil to Japan, from India to Italy. Altogether, the Massachusetts home has become a beautiful gallery and expression of warm minimalism.
For Thind, the design process must imbue “a sense of calm in crafting welcoming spaces.” Such small details as the rug underfoot or the curtains lining the wall, simple as they may seem, “actually reveal the best design, inviting us to take a break from our busy, daily lives and creating a soothing sensory experience.”

Upon entering the home, what immediately stands out are the expansive windows and tall ceilings. Such sound architectural bones posed a challenge to Thind: how to infuse warmth and peaceful energy into such a spacious property. A custom rug from Thind’s own collection first grounds the entry alongside an Italian console from Studio OE, while a suede bench and Davide Groppi light add dimension and texture to the room. A painting by the Scottish artist Norman Shaw completes the tableau.
In the sitting room, a custom Sashya Thind rug anchors a pair of Croft House sofas, a Carl Hansen chair, and a Claude Home coffee table. A Swadoh light illuminates the artwork of Sarah Favreau. Such an artwork commands guests’ attention; still, their commanding presence is pared back by the juxtaposition with eclectic furniture pieces. “This creates an approachable feeling, while [ensuring you still feel] inspired and excited by them every time you come across the piece.”

The kitchen maintains the house’s material warmth through Matera stools, a Glas Italia breakfast table from DWR, and Daumiller chairs, with Karman lighting overhead. The commitment to natural materials like cotton and linen, wood and silk, absorbs light and introduces a quietness that offsets the scale of the space.
Nearby stands the dining room, which is wrapped in a warm, considered glow. The room is furnished with a Uultis table and Tre 3 chairs sourced through Suite NY. A key piece in the space is the silk tapestry from XL Gallery, while a custom sideboard by Gideon Rettich completes the composition. Altogether, the space invites unhurried conversation and delicious meals.
The home office offers a moment of focus and quietude amid the house, with a Croft House desk and a Catifa chair from Suite NY. Connected to the space is a second office, which provides an alternative meeting room, furnished with a Maiden Home desk, a Gubi chaise and an LZF pendant.

Moving into the more private spaces of the home, the primary suite establishes an atmosphere of intimate serenity. The muted palette is established by the Arturo Alvarez pendant, casting soft lights over the custom drapery, while Tamar Zinn’s art adds a touch of peaceful reflection to the walls. The Ligne Roset chairs and Artemest side table pair with a Sashya Thind bed and rug underfoot, creating a private world to unwind in after a long day.
What Thind has achieved in this Weston, Massachusetts home resolves the pull between openness and warmth, between visual ambition and daily ease. “I wanted to create moments through the home focused on the activity in the space, the flow, without creating theme-like environments,” she mused. Intentional layering of rugs, furnishings, lighting and window coverings creates an atmosphere of contemplation where needed, whilst the uninterrupted architectural flow preserves the sense of a house settling well into its environment.
