Tea, coffee, moi—the Hermès Hippomobile collection definitely sparks joy in your space

If you haven’t gotten the memo, dressing the table is the new dressing up—a lifestyle trend spurred by the pandemic as we spend more time indoors. For serious tablescapers, the new tea service by Hermès injects a dose of fun into your home, something we need as we continue to face groundhog days.

Called Hippomobile, the central idea of this playful home collection is to encourage users to mix and match components to their hearts' content. The colourful, eye-catching design was conceived by the brand's frequent collaborator Gianpaolo Pagni, an Italian artist and designer who has made many covetable pieces for the Hermès home metier including the Tangram lacquer boxes.

The lively design was “inspired by jockey silks and the world of cartoons”, and actually has its roots from an engraving found in the Émile Hermès collection. The Hippomobile service looks like equal parts drawing and collage and is elevated by Pagni’s masterful approach to colour.

One clever element is that the designs have a sense of continuity, seen in the teacups and dessert plates that feature different parts of the horse. Each one is a piece of the puzzle but can stand alone on its own. “I envisioned a horse with an elongated back that could hold several riders. A kind of limousine horse,” says Pagni.

On a practical note, this also means you have to have the trio to complete the look, which gives you license to indulge in the full collection. See more of the Hermès Hippomobile tea service below or in person; the collection is now available in stores.
