1. Orchids

Potted orchids top the list with over 4 million hashtags on Instagram. According to feng shui principles, the flowering plant is said to bring a wealth of love and luck into your life. While there are several thousand varying species of orchids, one of the most common varieties is the Phalaenopsis orchid. Otherwise known as a Moth orchid, this indoor potted plant is often recommended for beginners as it can be easily nurtured, whilst staying in bloom for a long time.

One of several nurseries to look to is Prince’s Landscape. With two plant nurseries and over 50 years of experience in the industry, the garden center has a variety of orchids and indoor plants to choose from.

2. Snake plants

This nearly impossible-to-kill plant is perfect for those without a green thumb. Commonly known as the snake plant, this popular houseplant can often be identified through its stiff, green banded leaves.

Snake plants are one of the few plants chosen by NASA for their unique night-time air purifying ability; they’re said to improve sleep quality as the houseplant produces oxygen at night rather than during the day. It’s also a feng shui belief that the plant will bring in protective energy whilst dispelling any negative chi.

3. Peace Lilies

Contrary to popular belief, peace lilies are not part of the lily family. Scientifically known as Spathiphyllum, peace lilies are flowering tropical houseplants. Indisputably popular, peace lilies are favoured for their versatility; small tabletop varieties instantly brighten up spaces, while larger mass displays often make a striking statement.

Peace lilies are relatively low-maintenance and easy to care for. Just like snake plants, peace lilies are also known for purifying the air and removing harmful toxins such as acetone vapours. They’re a perfect addition to bedrooms. You’ll find peace lillies at places such as Potta Plantta, a chic plant sanctuary that offers plenty of indoor plants.

4. Pachira Money Tree

As its name suggests, the pachira money tree is commonly believed in feng shui practices to bring great prosperity and financial fortune to its owner. Botanically known as the pachira aquatica, the money tree grows well indoors—even in low- or artificially-lit areas.

A key distinguishing factor of the plant is its unique braided slender trunks. The charming braided stems alongside its sprightly leaves and straightforward care often makes the plant appealing even to those who don’t believe in feng shui.

Snag your own money tree at nurseries like the Noah Garden Centre. The online platform offers a wide range of plants, pots, gardening accessories, and more. There’s a large selection of pachira money trees here, with each plant differing in height and size.

5. Jade Plant

Rounding up the list is another affluent house plant—the crassula ovata. Commonly known as the jade or lucky plant, the popular houseplant is also often nicknamed the ‘money tree’, even though it looks nothing like its above counterpart. Jade plants are succulents that are easily identified by their glossy rounded leaves and thick-stemmed shrub.

The houseplant requires little watering, but needs bright and indirect sunlight to thrive. The little plant is said to bring financial prosperity and success. Often considered as a symbol of luck, jade plants make perfect housewarming gifts for new homeowners. However, the plant is also poisonous to dogs and cats, so it’s best to avoid it if you have a pet at home.

Jade plants are widely available at plant nurseries around the island. If you’re seeking a convenient online purchase, homegrown plant store The Chlorofeel offers a fresh selection of plants with convenient delivery services. The boutique also offers free repotting with each purchase.
