Furniture and lighting purveyor P5 opens a new chapter with Italian furniture and kitchen brands Molteni&C and Dada.

Be it elegant classics or modern bespoke pieces, P5 is a name that comes up in every discerning homeowner’s search for statement furniture and lighting. From its cosy space at 5 Purvis Street (where the shop got its name) in 2009 to its current 8,000sqft showroom on Mohamed Sultan, P5 has certainly gone from strength to strength.

Thinking out of the box has been part of P5’s plan since its first foray into architectural lighting—the store began with a selection of niche lighting brands before gradually venturing into retailing collections by furniture brands.

Calvin Ngo, vice-president of P5, says that each brand in its stable is carefully curated based on its history and product design, and the showroom’s ability to bring out a cohesive brand experience. “We want to bring something different and unique to the market, and provide an end-to-end range, from kitchen fittings to wardrobes, to furnish an entire home,” he says.

This commitment to mutually respectful collaborations has earned P5 favour with its partner brands, including its Italian flagship furniture brand Molteni&C and its kitchen line, Dada.

Its first floor is dedicated to Molteni&C and Dada, and complemented by brilliant finds from selected lighting brands. “Besides having a common business strategy and vision, being passionate about the business is also critical,” says Ngo. “If the brand principals sense that you’re only going after money, they may not want to work with you. They want to know that you truly believe in their brand.”

Walk into the P5 showroom and you’ll find plenty of ideas for luxuriously stylish spaces, ranging from the living area to the bedrooms. Whether it’s decorating for a minimalist pad or a cosy and functional abode for a large family, there are well-crafted selections for any interior style—timeless pieces that can be passed down through the generations.

“You can take an Asterias table designed by Patricia Urquiola in 2016 and it will match a Tobia Scarpa Miss chair designed in 1986,” says Ann Lee, P5’s general manager.

“Molteni&C offers many flexible options, including updated classics that meet modern lifestyle needs such as study tables with shallower depths and new contemporary fabrics. It’s not just about pricing, but also the value, design and craftsmanship.”

To complement the Molteni&C and Dada collections, P5 features brands with equally strong design traditions including Italian lighting brands Oluce and Nemo, and Danish furniture brand Carl Hansen & Søn. There’s even a touch of the quirky, such as with Swiss wood specialist Zoom by Mobimex’s solid-wood dining tables, and minimal kinetic lighting by London-based designer Michael Anastassiades.

Beyond the product quality, there’s P5’s top-notch customer service experience. Bring along a floor plan of your home, and the staff will be on hand to advise how different pieces can fit together. They will also follow up with a phone call after the item is delivered—and even arrange for a temporary piece to be placed within your home if a shipment is delayed.

“Customers want to be assured that their purchase will be delivered and done properly for them, and that they can come back to you if there’s any problems,” says Lee, recounting how the company’s delivery men once carried a sofa via the stairs to the 20th-floor apartment of its buyer without additional cost because it had miscalculated the size of the lift.

“We build relationships with our customers, because people will remember their shopping experience,” says Ngo. “At the end of the day, we want to make sure that our customers are happy with their purchases.”

More stylish finds will soon be introduced to the store, when P5 holds the grand opening of their showroom at the end of the year. It will launch the latest collections of Molteni&C, as well as new pieces from its growing stable of brands—gems that will blend beautifully into the luxurious abodes of design lovers.
