It comes as no surprise that the people behind the illustrious Tatler name love to read. It is, after all, part and parcel of what we do. Yet, the love of reading extends beyond any one profession or group of people. Happily, it lends itself to every eager reader ready to pick up a book and discover a new world.

Now that we've been spending more time at home, we've also been spending more time in our libraries—and as serious readers know, the setting is as important as the book itself. Here are our top tips for creating the perfect library or reading nook for your page-turning adventures.

A Good Chair

Much like a home movie theatre, a home library is a place of entertainment; and as in every place of entertainment, we must be comfortable in order to focus. Though a good chair is a great investment in every room of the house, it's especially so in the library where you're likely to get so caught up reading, you'll spend hours on that chair.

The first thing to consider is what position you're naturally most comfortable in: reclined, on your back, cross-legged, or moving around. Then, find a seating system that best supports that. Perhaps a chaise lounge is best if you like to read on your back, while a La-Z-Boy could be perfect for the reader who likes to recline. Explore all the different designs available and ensure your comfort before making any big purchasing commitments.

Good Lighting

The best light is always natural light: this is true for both readers and photographers. We suggest setting up your home library in a room with a window so that you can read with ease under the sun's friendly rays. Another capital idea is investing in a good lamp. It can be any kind of lamp you like—a standing lamp with a dimmer, a warm desk lamp—so long as you feel comfortable reading at night. An expert tip is to check out lamps with halogen bulbs, as many say that they can illuminate pages much better than fluorescent lights.

A Versatile Table

Though not necessarily required, we always recommend a nice table for the library. A larger desk would be perfect for one that doubles as a home office, but even a small side table would be sufficient for a cute reading nook. This is best used for making sure your reading essentials—a dictionary, some water, perhaps some snacks, and a highlighter if you're that kind of reader—are always by your side!

A Sturdy Bookshelf

Bookshelves are ubiquitous features in every library. Some bookworms prefer the traditional floor-to-ceiling, while others are happy with more modern designs. Depending on your own tastes, you may prefer other designs such as corner shelves, leaning shelves, modular shelves, or cubic shelves. The best part is each of these shelves are also likely to be made from materials that can fit in with the theme or colour palette of your room, whether you prefer metals or woods.

Something For The Weather

Temperature can make it difficult to concentrate, and as a reader, I like to have all my focus on the book. For this, we recommend having something in your library that can make the temperature more comfortable if the weather is too hot or cold. This could mean a chic portable fan, a dehumidifier, or even a stylish throw blanket—whatever it is that will make you feel comfortable enough to truly engage with your author's words.
