Dressing areas or large walk-in closets combine practicality with aesthetics—they offer storage for clothes, expand your layout options, and ensure the luxurious feel of your very own private dressing zone within an ensuite bedroom.

“Choosing the right clothes sets the mood that will take us through the day, as we are what we wear,” says Elsie Chin, principal designer of HYID. “A dressing area is not just a wardrobe space, but a ‘magical’, personal place where one is transformed. It is thus an important and integrated part of people’s everyday lives.”

When HYID was tasked to fashion a dressing area incorporating the Ziptrak Interior track-guided blinds system, Chin visualised a setting that would not only look good, but also maximise its spatial potential and usability; the system will be launched in Singapore by Durablinds Trading soon this year.

Chin started out by dissecting the notion of a dressing space. “It has long been an underrated area in the bedroom. With today’s hectic lifestyles, it has lost its significance as a place where one devotes time and effort to dress up and present themselves to the world,” she says.

To address this, HYID developed a concept that reasserts the importance of the dressing area in the modern home. Approaching the project from a bespoke luxury perspective, the firm created a light-filled, boutique-like space enclosed by glass walls. The concept is designed to spill out into the lush landscape that surrounds it, making it a pampering sanctuary in every sense of the word.

The sumptuous materials HYID chose are augmented by the practical features and technological benefits of the Ziptrak Interior system, resulting in a dressing area that is both stylish and very usable. Durablinds Trading also offers a wide array of fabrics and customisation choices, so there’s an option to suit any design scheme.

HYID gave the dressing area a monochromatic scheme to communicate a sense of timelessness and understated elegance. His and hers wardrobes in timber are set against a backdrop of black marble with dramatic white veining. Motorised Ziptrak blinds sporting a matte-finish rose gold mesh act as door panels for the wardrobes, complemented by customised rose gold trims for the pelmets and side tracks.

These blinds negated the need for conventional sliding door panels, “which would have downplayed the boutique concept”. “With the motorised blinds acting as wardrobe ‘doors’, users can preview their entire collection of clothes at a glance,” says Chin. Each motorised blind can span up to three metres in length—perfect for expansive wardrobes. They can also be lowered with a remote for privacy when guests visit.

“Another benefit is that the blinds can hold at any position, which is convenient when you are searching for clothes,” she adds.

Ziptrak Interior blinds are also available without the motorised option; its patented spring balanced system lets users leave the blinds at any height, without the need for cords or chains. The track-guided system secures the blinds within vertical tracks, preventing dust from entering through gaps.

The designer is impressed with the “endless possibilities” the Ziptrak Interior system affords. “Other than window insulation, the blinds can also be used as wardrobe doors or even dividers in bedrooms or home offices,” she says. “It is a stylish, practical system that drives creativity and new ideas.
