Kilyawan Farm Resort in Ibaan, Bataan only utilises the abundant materials found on the property. The cabin walls comprise recycled wood, bamboo and eco-bricks made with plastic food wrappers. The porosity of the materials enhances ventilation in the space, keeping it refreshing despite the heat.
The structure is also inspired by the poultry farm that used to occupy the space. One notable design element was the skylight in the chicken coop’s roofs, which allowed light to permeate through the interiors. The resort thus becomes an immersive vacation experience that signals an exciting step forward for thoughtfully designed, sustainable spaces.

With its board-formed concrete at different heights and depths, one has the impression of floating blocks. The design team paired the stark right angles in the home’s interior with the vertical slits used to add contrast to the windows. To add more dimension to the space, Nazareno utilises Accoya wood, engineered to resist rot and remain durable regardless of the weather. Their sleek, yet warm design that nods to Japanese Zen and marries it with tropical luxury is outstanding.
