Designed by Tonychi Studio, the new East Wing of Ritz-Carlton Millenia Singapore consists of a reception area inspired by a library, as well as an elegant bar and lounge space

The East Wing at Ritz-Carlton, Millenia Singapore has recently unveiled a line-up of new contemporary additions. The new East Wing now includes Library Reception, alongside a fresh dining concept, Republic, which consists of both a lounge and bar.

Designed by renowned design firm Tonychi Studio, the elegant space is crafted to exude a similar warmth and intimate ambience found in a private residential home. The reception area, lounge, and bar space each embody a distinct experience and atmosphere, but the spatial layout blends harmoniously and provides a consistent mood.

Floor-to-ceiling partitions allow for each space to be segmented when needed, depending on the occasion or time of day.

“Having worked on both Colony and Summer Pavilion restaurants in 2015, it is a privilege and honour to return to The Ritz-Carlton, Millenia Singapore, which is an architectural masterpiece by Kevin Roche,” says Tony Chi, who helms the New York-based Tonychi Studio. “I am thrilled to be given the opportunity to define both the expected and the unexpected for this landmark hotel that embodies modern Singapore and today’s global lifestyle.”

Upon entering the reception area, guests will be greeted by the quiet opulence that the hotel is known for. As its name suggests, the Library Reception is inspired by a grand residential library. Natural oak wood clads the floors and ceilings, creating a handsome and moody interior.

Books and literature of varying subjects are available for reading, encouraging guests to slow down and take a breather in the sophisticated space. For guests requiring business centre services, a new Digital Hub will be available and of assistance.

Adjacent to the Library Reception is the Republic Lounge. The parlour, inspired by grand residential sitting rooms, boasts a lofty and contemporary interior. Three decorative chandeliers hang from the ceilings, while the walls are dressed in blue herringbone fabric. Sofas clad in mint-green and brown upholstery make for inviting seats, paired along with rattan chairs and dining tables. The resplendent lounge is a perfect spot for an elegant and modern five-tier afternoon tea experience.

After dark, throw back a drink or two at the Republic Bar. The bar concept, in collaboration with Proof & Company, pays tribute to the 1960s era of freedom, expression, and individuality. Besides a cocktail menu that incorporates flavours and ingredients crafted after the influential hallmarks of the decade, the bar’s interior design is also inspired by the dynamic decade.

Sink into a smooth maroon leather seat at the rich and dark-toned bar fashioned from natural wood, whilst imbibing on a cocktail. Each corner of the bar displays a unique selection of drinks inspired by four countries: Singapore, England, America and Italy. Decorative artwork, as well as vintage movie posters and images from the ’60s, clad the wall space at the bar, adding to the charming atmosphere.
