Over the past six decades, the country's premier interior design organisation has celebrated the ingenuity and resilience of Filipino creatives
Good design pushes the boundaries of creativity while maintaining functionality. Each space facilitates deeper connections among people, allowing them to build off each others’ ideas and push each other to achieve their goals. Such is the case for the Philippine Institute of Interior Designers (PIID), which celebrated its 60th anniversary on October 5th.
Hosted at the Centro De Turismo Intramuros, the gathering served as a reflection of the organisation’s long history with promising glimpses of future endeavours. At the event, industry partners and designers mingled over conversations about bold, new strides in the Philippine design scene.

The PIID was first conceived in 1964 at the Summit Restaurant in Malate. A group of Filipino interior designers and architects gathered together to create a professional organisation highlighting advancements in interior design.

In 1983, the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) created the first Interior Design Licensure Examination. In 1992, the PIID was recognised by the PRC as the Accredited Professional Organisation for Interior Designers. This proved the value of the organisation in championing design innovations.

Since then, the PIID has joined prestigious international design associations, from the Asia Pacific Space Designers Association (APSDA) in 1991 to the International Federation of Interior Architects/Designers (IFI) in 1995.
In a rapidly changing world, it is essential to keep the community at the centre of design. Through balancing sustainable development and long-term goals, the PIID continues to improve the lives of Filipino creatives, craftsmen and citizens.
The organisation continues to be rooted in the goals of its founders while approaching new technologies with unquenchable curiosity, proving that the best is yet to come.
