Designing a home for herself challenged Miranda Kozan to refine her personal style and prioritise what truly matters. “As a designer, you’re constantly exposed to new styles, trends and ideas, but designing your own home is a different challenge,” says the founder and principal designer of Interior Couturier.
Her apartment became a canvas for this personal exploration—one grounded in authenticity and intention. Over the course of three months, the spacious unit was transformed into a family abode that reflects their identity.
The process of bringing this vision to life proved both challenging and rewarding, requiring a careful balance between new inspirations and the practicalities of creating a sanctuary for Kozan’s growing family.
Characterised by understated minimalism and a neutral colour palette, the light-filled residence offers the perfect backdrop for artworks and design objects that allude to the family’s rich multicultural background.

Melting pot
Drawing from her husband’s Turkish heritage, their Australian roots and time spent in the United Kingdom, Kozan wove their global story into the abode’s thoughtful design. “We focused on creating a home that felt deeply personal and grounded—whether through colour, scene or shape—while ensuring functionality and timelessness.”
Naturally, each piece in the apartment holds personal significance, from the living room sofa linked to a memorable first date to heirlooms that infuse the space with warmth and character. “It was important to me that every piece tells a story and evokes a strong sense of home, where both beauty and practicality coexist,” says the founder of Interior Couturier.

Natural selection
Sustainability was also a key consideration. Kozan prioritised natural materials and made thoughtful selections that elevate the home while supporting a toxic-free environment, in line with her wellness values. This design choice by Interior Couturier is evident in the living room, where clean lines and organic forms add visual interest. Timber and leather furniture were carefully chosen for their lower environmental impact. An intricate wool rug, with earthy undertones and floral motifs beneath the coffee table, softens the overall look and anchors the space. Pops of green—think potted plants in varying sizes, velvet green armchairs and landscape paintings—introduce organic elegance. Vintage pieces were also incorporated and repurposed to reduce waste while modernising their appeal.
In the dining area, a rectilinear table is paired with curved chairs and crowned by a custom lantern handcrafted from linen and rattan. Behind it, a sleek shelving unit showcases unique objects and what Kozan calls the unsung hero of shelf styling: books. “They’re one of the most effortless ways to add depth, structure and personality to a space. Their solid, linear shapes are ideal for stacking, their spines create repetition when shelved upright, and they can introduce colour or texture in the most understated way,” she elaborates.

Cosy sanctuary
In the master bedroom, Interior Couturier toys around with a palette of calming blues, greens and neutrals, complemented with dim lighting from shaded lamps and inviting bedding, fosters moments of peace and repose. As in the living room, timber elements lend warmth.
The children’s room features pattern mixing and soothing pastel tones. A shelving unit with an integrated desk—echoing the design language of the dining area—displays toys, books and other cherished trinkets. Aesthetically rich yet functional, the spaces come together in a cohesive whole, creating an inviting setting for a family life.
