Tatler Philippines talks to Phoenix managing partner Andreas Diefenbach, the man behind hansgrohe’s Raindance Alive shower
Showers are a natural part of our everyday lives, often marking when it begins and ends. Hansgrohe seeks to transform these fleeting minutes of our routine into something to genuinely look forward to. Raindance Alive is a shower that rejuvenates and refreshes, creating moments that instil a sense of peace and calm. Its debut at the Kuysen Design + Experience Center was attended by its renowned, award-winning designer—Phoenix managing partner Andreas Diefenbach.

Phoenix is a design studio that boasts more than 1,000 awards, working in collaboration with some of the world’s most recognisable names. Their partnership with hansgrohe stretches back 30 years, creating products that blend pleasing aesthetics with raw technical prowess. “Hansgrohe has become a third home for me,” Diefenbach remarks. “I feel like I belong to the team without actually being on it.” The upper floors of the Kuysen Design + Experience Center were filled with evidence of this longstanding relationship, with dozens of shower, faucet and sink designs that have furnished discerning homes for decades. The evening’s spotlight, however, was on Raindance Alive.

Above Smooth and intuitive for a relaxing shower experience: this is hansgrohe's Raindance Alive
“Raindance Alive started with that intention—to feel alive,” Diefenbach explains. “It was this idea of a ritual, to keep people inspired, to be motivated for the day [from start to finish].” The mesh design of the shower is made of elegant, anodised aluminium, for a more homogenous and less artificial appearance. Design cues and philosophies were borrowed from consumer electronics. “I wanted it to be something smart, intuitive,” he remarks. “It became more of a lifestyle object and less of a product, so the mesh played a huge role.”
This, in addition to the surface-mounted thermostat, gives it the impression of an integrated module, seamlessly at home with your interiors. It comes with two shower modes: RainAir and PowderRain. The former produces droplets enriched with air for a soft, delicate touch, while the latter uses fine microdroplets of water for a deep sense of indulgence and relaxation.
“It feels like a thousand kisses from an angel,” he enthuses, without a hint of restraint or exaggeration. “It’s quiet and embraces your skin without splashing.” In fact, Diefenbach’s labrador, Selma, enjoys it as well. “It’s very quiet and soft… and she really just loves it.”

Diefenbach also stresses the deeper meaning behind showers. “It’s not only to get your body clean—nowadays, the main reason is mental health, especially to the younger generation,” he muses. “I think a shower is just as much a health and wellness product, helping you calm down and close the door between work and home. It’s a safe space of resilience, stability.
Raindance Alive completely changes one’s perception of showers: not just what it is, but what it can be. Beyond cleanliness, it is an opportunity for reflection, quiet and self-love. “My wish is for [you] to feel energised,” Diefenbach says. “To feel alive, to be refreshed.”
