In partnership with Louis Vuitton, Chow presents ‘Savoir Rêver’, a journey through a dreamworld
A new exhibition titled Savoir Rêver showcases Louis Vuitton’s mastery of precious leather handbags, hard-sided trunks, high jewellery, fashion and the highly acclaimed Objets Nomades, transporting visitors to the maison’s surreal world.
Designed by founder and principal of NC Design and Architecture (NCDA) Nelson Chow, Savoir Rêver transforms two floors of Pedder Building into a labyrinth of immersive rooms, infused with Chow’s signature soft, organic aesthetic.
You began your career in New York and started your own Hong Kong studio in 2011. Would you say you dream big?
As a designer, my biggest dream is to create immersive, inspiring spaces that transport viewers to a different world. This exhibition is a realisation of that dream.
What was your inspiration and the idea behind the concept of Savoir Rêver?
The concept behind this dreamworld is to take guests on a journey through the surreal, fantastical world of Louis Vuitton. Inspired by the maison’s innovative designs and unique places around the globe, each room has been expertly crafted to transport visitors to another realm, where they can explore the magic of their own imagination.
I wanted to create a space that not only showcases the beauty of LV’s products but also inspires visitors to dream big and think outside the box.
Can you talk us through your design?
From the organic, arched spaces on the upper level to the grand, serpentine installation on the lower level, each room is designed to create a sense of wonder. The pinnacle of the journey is a surreal bar, featuring a cocoon-like structure and a mirrored ceiling that creates an optical illusion within Pedder Building. Here, guests can relax and sip cocktails while reflecting on the beauty and mystery of the dreamworld.
What do you hope visitors take away from this exhibition?
Through this scenography, we aimed to create a space that complements people’s lives while providing an escape from the everyday. By blending the world’s of fashion, art and design, it offers a unique experience that challenges guests to explore the boundaries of their own reality and enter a world of multidimensional dream states.
